The Hotel Relais Chateaux Orfila is located in the Orfila Street, in a mansion built in the very centre of Madrid. This 19th century mansion is located in the residential, cultural and business centre of Madrid, next to the Colon Square, where Christopher Columbus's statue is.
Comment of D. Louis , Belgium the 2014-08-22
"This hotel does everything they can to make your stay lovely"
This hotel is on a quaint and beautiful side street, yet only two minutes from the fashionable Salamanca shopping district. It is reminiscent of a small French chateaux/Italian Palazzo, with interesting old world paintings and charming Antiques. This is NOT a hotel with PR team that is minimalist and contemporary that short changes you at breakfast, this hotel DOES hospitality. The hotels existence is to welcome you and while you are staying do everything to make your stay lovely. thoughtful touches like a complimentary bottle of sherry and water as well as a good selection of European newspapers and a mint foot massage pack on the bed in the evening, as well as percale cotton, freshly ironed sheets and complimentary high quality toiletries that are beautiful, are just a few things I can think of. We were not able to stay for dinner as we had other plans, but we enjoyed a tortilla outside on their beautiful terrace in the sunshine and it was perfect, cooked by someone who has much creative talent and taste.
This time was only one night unfortunately. As always we and our friends would not stay anywhere else in Madrid. It is faultless, great breakfast, and great staff. We cannot wait until our annual visit next February so I think we will go for a few days in the Spring. Tony & Angela Kennedy
We were only in Madrid for one night en route to South America and thought we'd stay somewhere special and pick 'No 1' on Trip Adviser. This normally excellent group of hotels (R&C) uses CC and C as its ethos, but we would give this hotel D, D and D. Disappointing, dated and deserted. The staff were friendly and helpful in the normal course but did not deliver what they said. An erroneous extra bed was not removed, no turn down service and no water in the room for the night. Even very inexpensive hotels provide a little free bottled water and this is NOT inexpensive. The room decor is distinctly 1970's, in good condition but just tired and in need of a refresh. We saw no one in the restaurant, had no breakfast - £64 extra is exorbitant. The only good thing was an excellent bed and lovely bed linen. We will not be back!
"Charming spot for a getaway"
The Hotel Orfila is located in a palazzo with old world charm, and the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and service oriented. The location is on the edge of the Salamanca district (good for shopping and restaurants), tucked into a quiet residential street near many foreign embassies, and an easy walk to all major attractions. The room was large and comfortable, with nice seating area and a view of the garden. The only complaint is that little things in the room needed attention (receptable plate fell off the wall, cover to bath drain broke, door handle to back stairs was broken). But still a very lovely spot for a quiet getaway in Madrid.
We stayed in Orfila for one week and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The rooms were spacious and clean; the service, impeccable and the location, perfect. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a boutique hotel in a quiet neighborhood.
