Renaissance Barcelona Hotel is located few minutes away from the historical and tourist center of the city: Paseo de Gracia, Plaza Catalunya, Las Ramblas, La Boqueria, the Gothic neighbourhood, the Gran Teatro del Liceu, the Palau de la Música, the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral of Sagrada Familia.
OK, call me picky, but I really don't want to see thick grime covering the bedside telephone. Or fingerprints on the mirrors. Yes, the room is clean at first glance, but it really needs a deep, very deep overhaul. On the plus side, this hotel is centrally located and we could walk the entire city from it. The navigators were quite helpful, full of restaurant suggestions and eager to make reservations for us. This is more of a business hotel, with limited drawer space, so be prepared to leave clothing in your suitcase. Most nights there was turndown service and mini Toblerone on the bed. But not tonight. Why' Breakfast buffet is lovely, lots of eggs, meats, and pastries, juices and coffee. Fresh fruit, too, including fabulous honeydew melon that we couldn't get enough of. I've been in far better hotels, but I've also seen worse.
"Centrally located Hotel"
The Renaissance Barcelona is centrally located but geared to the business traveler. The staff was attentive and helpful. It is reminiscent of a boutique hotel. However, There was little drawer and closet space. I wish there were more electronic outlets..In this day and age most of us need to charge our electronics. There is no Concierge lounge on the premises, but we were given daily breakfast vouchers. Otherwise, it is a fine hotel and we probably will stay here again when we return to this wonderful city.
In the heart of the city, close to everything you need to see in Barcelona. 2 blocks from the "hop-on / hop-off"! The staff was very friendly, especially the lobby bar staff! Ended up eating dinner in the hotel twice (bad weather) and it was very good! We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Barcelona!!
"What the website fails to tell you..."
Nice hotel, good location. But: No pool, neither indoor or outdoor....not sure where those glam rooftop pool pics come from. Nice rooftop terrace towards the main drag. No spa either. They contract with a spa nearby, and you can go there or have them come to the hotel in a specific treatment room, but else, no spa. The gym is small, 3 treadmills, 3 elliptical, 3 stationary bikes, a small area for lifting, one multipurpose weight machine.
We stayed here for three nights prior to a cruise using Marriott points supplemented by daily charge for breakfasts. This Renaissance is beautiful, well maintained and complemented with an unbeatable front desk, housekeeping, maintenance and concierge staff who catered to every need. The navigator service was superb! The room was well appointed, comfortable and roomy. The housekeeper made sure to make bed like we preferred with top sheets vs. comforter as I am always on the warm side. The restaurant had a very good club sandwich and hamburger. They also offered other entre items for dinner. The wine list was adequate and great for Spain. We loved the terrace bar and had cocktails there every night...again bartenders, service staff were the best. They are a very busy hotel. We had hoped for early check in, but that didn't happen. To avoid this we should have booked another night. I highly recommend this hotel.
