Despite being Marriott Elite members we could not check in at the dedicated desk. Our room was standard but unfortunately despite requesting housekeeping the following morning at 0830 to make up the room, upon our return at 1415 it still had not been done. In general staff not very efficient. However; the location is ideal being close to the centre. Very little atmosphere in the public areas (bar/restaurant) and the buffet breakfast was very disappointing with hot dishes being cold. Not the best experience
"Good location, decent hotel, difficult check in."
We booked this hotel primarily for its proximity to my husbands work obligations. Actually we booked at the adjoining Marriott Executive Apartments. Upon arrival we were informed that staying at the Marriott would not allow us to utilize are elite status. This meant that we were not allowed to access the club lounge nor have to breakfast included as these were at the Renaissance which was not part of the Marriott. Despite the fact that these two hotels share amenities and in fact the same check in desk. After being told emphatically our elite benefits were not an option I requested being moved to the Renaissance. The manager at this point told me that I would have to make my own reservation and that It was a very busy week at the Renaissance and the rates would be significantly higher. At this point she told me that she had other more important things to tend to and I would have to wait. While waiting I looked up the rates for the 5 night stay at the Renaissance. Learning rooms were indeed available and even cheaper than the rate I had at the Marriott. After a longer waiting period the reservation was changed. This initial experience at check in did have an extremely negative impact on our stay at this hotel. While I realized what the issue was/is I found the managers attitude and behavior extremely unhelpful and rude. I found a solution on my own which she begrudgingly agreed to but felt the need to print up the rules and highlight them for me despite the fact that it was no longer at issue. That said the Renaissance is a nice clean hotel with a good location. The club lounge was adequate for breakfast although nothing special. We did not utilize it for the evening snack opting instead to go out. The gym facility is great and we both made use of that. Otherwise this hotel is average. We will try the another hotel on our next trip. The rudeness of the staff and the treatment we received as platinum members was just not acceptable.
"Order room service with plenty of time!"
Lovely hotel, spacious room - food is the only issue. Breakfast ok but choice not first class - teas and fruit were a disappointment. I invited a colleague for breakfast meeting and for 25€ not good value! The worst issue for food was room service that didn't come in time so i left with no lunch! I had to use room service in the evening which did arrive with a free glass of wine to compensate.... so i will go back!
I have stayed in several hotels around the EP. This one offers everything I value in a hotel: a pleasant atmosphere, helpful, smiling staff, excellent breakfast in a very private setting, a comfortable room... And it is at a very short walking distance from the Luxemburg train station, which means that it is less than a short, 20 minute train ride from the airport. I have found the place to stay when I come to Brussels for business. The merger with the SPG chain was a good business move.
