"Definitely exceed my expectations"
Location - excellent. In the heart of it great shopping and quick access to many restaurants, some close, some a little bit of a walk. More importantly, if you like to go out for a run or walk, the Alster lakes are about 300m away. There you can run as far as you'd like around the lake path. Rooms - Good sized room, great windows (that open). Very comfortable bed. Good lighting and a comfortable work desk. My only pet peeve, I don't like when they put decorative pillows on the bed, because I can only imagine the last time they were washed. So, every night, for 5 nights, I'd put the pillow on the chair and every day - without fail - they put it back on the bed....along with a room service menu. No need to put them on the bed, especially the menu. That said, the room was perfect. Modern decor (that matches the hallways). Large closet. Nightly chocolates were much enjoyed Breakfast - awesome breakfast. huge selection. came free because of my status with Marriott, so I can't really comment on its value but it seems worth it. Staff - Courteous, efficient. Helpful. They keep the place spotless and running, so not much more to ask for. Bed - super comfortable and big. I was traveling solo, so maybe it felt more roomy because of that - but it definitely didn't fit the mold of what people expect with European hotel rooms. Room orientation - Ask for a room facing outward. My room looked towards the back which meant my view was of the glass dome roof of the mall next door, and the office behind. Other direction would put you facing the street. You might get more noise, but for sure a better view Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it, if it fits your budget.
Stayed 1 night on business so didn't make full use of facilities but the room was well furnished with a modern design. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom modern. The staff were helpful, bringing up a toothbrush promptly when I discovered I had forgotten mine. They offered me coffee when I left for my early flight. All in all good and would stay again.
Love this place, stayed here many times and always treated great. Rooms are lovely and always clean to a high standard. Hotel facilities are perfect e.g. the bar and food area, was there before Xmas and there was a professional pianist in the lounge, very nice way to chill. The staff really make this place, thank you.
"Nice hotel "
I booked three rooms at the Renaissance Hamburg for three days. We requested one room with two double beds - but it was unavailable until the next day. We had no problems at all with moving rooms. The hotel is really lovely. Great staff - the bellman was top notch, super helpful and friendly. When we moved to our new room, the room smelled of cigarette smoke from the previous guest. I reported it and the staff was very apologetic and found is a new room. The location is fabulous - walking distance to Alster Lake and all of the best shops. The hotel restaurant was very expensive for breakfast and the food was just ok. We found Cafe Parisienne next door in the shopping mall and it was much better all around - better food and more affordable. I have two issues with the hotel. First, the elevators are a bit slow. Also, if you stick your arm in to hold it - it will close on you. Six days later and I still have the painful bruise on my arm. :(. Second, the wifi is terrible. My entire family struggled to get the wifi to work. We had complimentary wifi due to our Marriott status and would not stay connected. If I had been visiting this hotel for work, I would've been infuriated. The Renaissance public wifi works well - but not the guest wifi. We even spoke to the IT folks who handle the wifi and they tried to troubleshoot for us. They kept telling us that the devices were connected, but we couldn't get onto the Internet even after changing all the settings as suggested. Really frustrating. Other than that, I really enjoyed my three nights at the Renaissance.
"Good hotel, great location"
Unbelievably, despite two-dozen trips to Hamburg and it being 100m from one of our offices, I only now have stayed in the Renaissance. I've been missing out. For upscale Hamburg retail therapy there is not better hotel than the Renaissance as it is located in the middle of the shopping district. However, as I was there on business I was only able to window-shop after the stores had closed. The man who checked me in couldn't have been more helpful. He recommend a good Indian restaurant and printed me out a Google map. Each night I passed by reception he remembered my name and wished me a good evening. Nice touch. My room was large and comfortable. Most importantly, it was quiet and had good air conditioning (I was there in August). It is surprising how many Hamburg hotels do not have AC. A few things to note: The Renaissance is a Marriott property so make sure you have your rewards card number or else you will have to pay for WiFi. Also, like many German hotels, breakfast is not included and at nearly €30 I gave it a miss. There is a coffee shop down the street that serves good breakfast items. At night the bar is comfortable and there is outside seating looking out onto a small square; very nice place to relax on a warm night. There are many very good restaurants all within a 10-20 minute walk from the hotel and if you fancy a wander around the city you couldn't ask for a better location.
