"Lovely place (But)"
Arrived at the hotel December pre xmas initially for 10 days and booked a villa/ chalet The Weather was horrible, (obviously nothing anyone can do about the weather) The Hotel room was nice enough but a little bit congested towards other renaissance resorts we have stayed in and not really worth the money. The resort it self is just a bit to far out to be able to walk anywhere and the roads around not the best with pot holes etc. Although their is a courtesy bus on to take you into the town the timings aren't the best and it's 500 baht to get back so when the weather isn't good it can get quite expensive, After 3 Days we desided enough was enough with the weather an enquired about the cost of leaving the resort which turned out to be 50% of the initial cost, I have to say that wasna on reception was absolutely brilliant, She re arranged out flights with Bangkok Airways and could not have asked for more, The 2 restaurants in the resort aren't really up to much however there are one or two local restaurants around. Hopefully if we visit again the weather will be much better
"2 weeks @ Renaissance"
The staff could not have been more friendly, nor helpful. We had a villa with a pool which was excellent, clean, spacious, well appointed. The restaurant choices were limited. The main restaurant, room-service and pool bar all had the same menu, the Ta-wann restaurant was good, with beautiful views.
"OMG, the PERFECT honeymoon!"
We booked a private villa for our honeymoon, and to cut a very long story short, there is NOTHING but amazing things that I can say about this place! We were initially assigned to a villa directly above the main pool. Although it was exquisite and picturesque, it did not have the privacy we wanted for our honeymoon. We therefore did a recon of the property and found the best 2 villas that we felt were apropos to our needs. Luckily for us, one of them was available commencing the next day. We basically moved in and never, ever left the place! Why would you' We had our own private pool (and beach), room service that cost the same as dining at any of the on-site restaurants (and the food was spectacular), and the privacy to come, go, and do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. The staff were superlative. Words cannot express our gratitude to them for their kindness and attentiveness. We spent a day at the spa which will not soon be forgotten, albeit the mosquito control in the dressing area could have been improved (if that's my worst complaint, then so be it!). Bottom line: if you can afford a private villa, this place will not disappoint!
"Could not leave quick enough"
Beyond average - we left after one night out of our 5 night visit to Ko Samui. How the Ko Samui Renaissance is a five star resort I will not understand. The quarters and common grounds are filthy and poorly maintained. The service is mediocre and the two restaurants do not warrant the price tag. During check in you will be greeted with ice cream, a pleasant and promising start, but be weary - the remainder of the check in process will focus solely on the cost of services offered (even down to the bag of chips in your room). If you travel in "high season" do not ask for a room upgrade (even if you're willing to cover the cost) - it was an absolute no go for us and it was our honeymoon. Moving forward from the pathetic rooms, the majority of the staff were pleasant and welcoming while others were not. While checking in and feeling like "difficult clients" we were mocked and made into a joke. Camelia, a front office manager/concierge, laughed and went to the back office and loudly made comments about our situation. Our room was poorly maintained; two twins pushed together, stained grout, dusty, mold and all around far from 5 star standards. Last, but not least, after pulling teeth and calling the corporate office we were able to leave without paying for all five nights (note: it was bad enough we would have paid and still left to enjoy our trip), I used a gift card that was valued at 500 US dollar and the stay was ~400. I was told this was a 1 time use card the the remaining funds are voided. Needless to say, the second I return to the states I will call corporate again (this time hopefully I will not be charged 1000 baht :)
"Great experience "
Because of the bad weather and heavy rain, we had to re-plan our trip and skipped Koh Phangan...by chance I found a room available and we didn't regret it! We stayed at a Pool Villa, which we could not use to the max, no sunshine and heavy rain! But nevertheless we enjoyed our stay! The room, the comfort of the bed, the shower exceptional! The restaurants, poolbar staff and any other staff we met, were so friendly, polite and welcoming in a very kind way. The breakfast buffet offers all you want and is worth every penny. We definitely recommend this hotel and hope to come back and enjoy the beach and the sun soon!!
