"Beware: Hotel is a construction zone!"
This hotel may be nice, but I'll never really know. The hotel is under major construction of the lobby, common areas, and pool. Rather than shut down to complete the renovations, the hotel has chosen to inconvenience their guests. Guests must enter through a back door parking garage area, then wait for a tiny elevator to cram into. This elevator stops at the garage levels, and will stop at every.single.floor until you reach the "lobby" where you will need to transfer to another elevator to get to your room. The entire double elevator process can take up to 10 minutes (we timed it). The lobby experience is lipstick on a pig. They've taken raw space and put up temp walls, carpet, a make shift check in desk and concierge and two sad bench couch things. The temporary lobby is depressing and shabby. It's a terrible welcome experience for guests. The worst part is that the hotel neither acknowledges or apologizes for the situation. Staff never says "we're under construction, so sorry for the inconvenience" or even asks how your stay is upon checking out! Maybe they are tired of people complaining. I stayed at the hotel with a large group and everyone's opinions ranged from unimpressed to irritated. The rooms are well appointed and the views are great. The beds and pillows are too soft and caused my husband and I back pain, something we don't normally suffer. The pool is also under construction. A major amenity gone, and no make good from the hotel. I will not be staying there again.
"Good and Bad"
I agree with a lot of the mid-range views on here. Overall, I think this hotel is a good deal if you can get a room for $125-$150 per night. Above that, I think there are better options elsewhere. The good: - The beds are very comfortable - The bathroom amenities are good; nice shampoos, etc - The location is convenient - The customer service is excellent. Marcella was incredibly helpful, and very quickly responded when I asked for a new room. I found all of the employees to be very cordial, but Marcella went above and beyond. - The fitness center was pretty good. They offered headphones, bottled water and cold towels, however, not all machines worked (for example, I had to try three treadmills before finding one that worked) The bad: - Not all rooms are created equal. The room I was initially placed in had a broken heat/AC, the hot water in the shower was not more than lukewarm, and the bed shared a wall with the elevators so I heard humming and chiming all night. Again, when I asked to switch rooms, my new room did not have these issues. - I agree with the review that this place would be considered nice in the 90s. I know they are undergoing renovations, but I felt that they had let quality slide over the last few years. - room service/breakfast buffet was way too expensive. You can charge those prices if a) you are a very upscale, deluxe hotel, or b) the quality justifies it. However, neither was the case - the renovations are annoying. The roundabout way to get to your room, and the makeshift lobby was kind of frustrating. I saw that others have complained about the wifi but I had no issues.
Had a great trip to Boston! Good location to walk to lots of different sights. Hardly noticed that there was construction other than having to take two separate elevators from the street, small blip in an overall good stay! Room service was way over priced plenty of great restaurants close to the hotel.
renovations had started just prior to us arriving, I did receive an email stating pool was not going to be available because of renovations, but nothing about other renos. We arrived to front entrance with no signs indicating they were under renos and to use back door, finally after a few mins bellhop came by and told us where to go. We couldn't get a drink or food anywhere, unless we ordered room service, had to leave hotel. In order to use the fitness centre we had to exit the building to do so. I received an email asking if they could help prepare for our arrival and I submitted my request and neither was done one was to have 2 rooms on the same floor and the other to have a bottle of distilled water for CPAP machine, not huge request, if you are not going to fulfill don't bother wasting time. Fitness centre was better than average, a lot of machines, but room temp was too high, nothing to sanitize/wipe down equipment.
I was returning my daughter to Emerson College so this hotel was a great location. It was close to the Arlington T stop and to many restaurants. An added bonus is that it's 2 blocks from the Gardens and Common, so I was able to enjoy a long morning walk.
