"At the end of a narrow lane was a large door...."
This was my first experience staying in a Moroccan riad and what a pleasant one it was. The riad is on the edge of the Fes Medina and is a short walk from the fountain where buses drop their passengers. There are porters, if you need one, all to ready to give you a hand for a fee. As with many Moroccan buildings, what you see on the outside is not what to expect on the inside. Once through the large wooden door you walk into a large central courtyard that is open to the sky above (with some moveable roof panels). The mosaic tile work is beautiful, the old furniture authentic and the hospitality superb. We were served the usual "berber whiskey" which is the traditional hot mint tea while we waited to get room keys. Upholstered benches with numerous cushions surround the courtyard for you to relax on. There is even a small swimming pool and some chaise lounges in an adjoining court. There are no elevators and narrow, dimly lit stairways to the upper floors and porters if you need one. The air conditioned rooms are spacious and mine had a large bathroom with a tub and shower. As there are no windows to the outside so the room might feel like a vault and is be dark and quiet once the lights are out. I had to check my watch to determine the time when I woke up in the morning as the room was pitch dark. Breakfast was a lavish affair of several courses. Croissants, sweet pastries, breads, fruit, yogurt, eggs, tea/coffee etc. all delivered by the most friendly and obliging waiters. Now that you are fueled up for the day all you need to do is exit the large wooden door, go down the alleyway and turn left into the Medina.
Stayed for two nights. Great location. Beautiful riad. Excellent rooms. Great food. Huge breakfast. Lovely staff. Muhammad the manager - very gracious and great host. Nice pool. A must in Fes! Thanks for a lovely time :)
"Lovely Riad, Gracious Staff..Great Experience!!"
I stayed at Riad El Yacout two times and just three weeks apart as I live in Rabat and brought visitors each time. Both stays were amazing! The Riad is absolutely gorgeous - the Moroccan decor is stunning and attention to detail is apparent in the rooms, dining area, pool, and salons. My room on both occasions were spacious, with comfy beds, wifi, and flat screen t.v., and bathrooms with excellent hot water and pressure. Mohammed, the manager and staff are so friendly and gracious. Mohammed even met us at the local McDonalds to guide us back into the medina and help us park our car. He is awesome!! During my first visit, we had a two year old in tow, and the staff cared for him as if he were family. In fact, you do feel like family as everyone at the Riad treats you such. Khadija who oversees the Riad is simply lovely. Her English is perfect, so corresponding via email to arrange reservations is seamless. She even secured a driver, van, and tour guide for us both times, and they were great. You cannot go wrong here and you will have a wonderful experience!!
"Lovely escape from buzz of Fez"
A group of eight friends spent two nights at the lovely Riad El Yacout. The riad is beautiful, the rooms spacious and the service and attention to detail from the staff outstanding. Mohammed, who manages the riad, and all of the staff was kind and knowledgeable. Also English was spoken by several of the staff. Made for a wonderful spot for our two nights in Fez! Thank you, Mohammed, for making our time in your city one we'll remember!
"Lovely Riad El Yacount"
We were a group of 8 travelers from Minnesota and we spent two nights at Riad El Yacout. The place is beautiful and the rooms were very nice. The food was very good and plentiful. The staff, especially the manager, Muhammad, was very kind, helpful and went out of his way to make our stay wonderful. We highly recommend staying here.
