My husband surprised me for my birthday by booking this hotel. He is a Best Western diamond reward holder so has stayed in many Best Western Hotels before. He booked this one as it stated that it was a premiere, thinking it would be a top hotel. How disappointed we were! First let me say that the staff are lovely, they were very welcoming and were doing the best they could with what they were given. The bed was comfy in the room, but that is where it stops. The room on first glance looked very nice. High ceilings, lush curtains and soft carpets. On closer inspection the room looked like it had been previously trashed. The carpet did not meet the doorway to the bathroom, there were dirty marks all over the walls near the mirror in the bedroom, one of the towels had a brown stain on. There was a waste pipe that ran through the back of the room , which meant that we could hear every time guests above us flushed the toilet, showered etc. We wanted to sit in the bar before going out on the Friday evening and had planned to see if the restaurant had any space for the Saturday, but when we went down, the restaurant and bar had been cordoned off for Christmas parties and we were sat in a corridor near reception where the receptionist took our drinks order and proceeded to take ages in bringing the drinks to us. Had we been told that the bar and restaurant would be closed for parties we would have never booked this hotel. Unfortunately I would say that this is the norm as when we mentioned it the staff did not seem surprised by the complaint. On returning to the room on the Friday evening there was loud music playing, and at 1.30am we had had enough and called reception. It was other guests in the hotel. Reception asked them to turn it down but as soon as they left the guests turned it back up. We bought ear plugs the second night. All in all not a good experience. This is definitely not a Premiere Hotel!
"Great hotel great price great location "
My husband and I were in Liverpool visiting family and friends and came across this hotel at the last minute and we were not disappointed. Very friendly staff, comfy rooms with excellent bed and great bathroom facilities. Rooms were quiet and the breakfast next day was top notch. Location wise it suited us perfectly as it was easy to get to everywhere in the city centre. We would stay here again.
"Lumpy bread, stale beer and fags smell, low quality breakfast...."
I’m 2 nights in to a 3 night stay at the Richmond for an academic congress. I arrived at 2:30pm and my room was not ready and the wifi was down so I couldn’t do any work! I was let in at 3pm and the room itself (room 141) has beautiful high ceilings and it’s a nice old building, I was in the suite, so you get bathroom, bedroom a little office space and a kitchenette (you could make a proper meal in it)… and it’s genuinely very nice if a little worn, perhaps like a well-used pub rather than a business hotel! I like the character / look and feel of the place…. You couldn’t accuse it of being boring and generic like the Marriot! Also, the staff seem nice and are responsive and polite, no issue there. Where’s the problem. What greets you first in room 141 is the smell of stale beer and cigarette smoke that won’t leave no matter how long you leave the window open! The window is single glazed so you get Liverpool nightlife down your earhole. The bed has a lumpy old mattress…. OK the breakfast! The coffee is undrinkable. I had a massive curry the night before so was on the fruit and yoogurt in the morning but my yogurt was warm… I wouldn’t be writing this email if I’d paid £50 for the hotel, but I think it was more like £80-90 (the suite was the same price as the basic room) per night. It's more like London prices. I like what they were going for; apparently every Best Western is different and many have a lot of character, my friend swears by them! but they got many little things wrong as well as some big things. I won’t be coming back to Best Western most likely!
Stayed here as a guest after a Christmas party night in the hotel. Staff very polite and helpful, had a fantastic evening food was lovely and plenty to drink, entertainment great. Rooms are lovely nice and warm and beautifully decorated. Complimentary toiletries in the bathroom and bottled water, milk in the mini fridge a great touch. Plenty of tea and coffee making facilities too. I would recommend the hotel for the all inclusive christmas party nights and also for the accomodation.
