"Great Basic Hotel, Not a lot of extras."
First the positive. Big room, great layout, great view of the city and the mountains. clean. Maid service is willing to please. Could improve. Not enough plugs near to night stands to plug in phones, and tablets. Frig temperature was too cold and froze my food. Safe is located in an awkward place at the back of the closet; hard to access. takes a long time for water to warm up in the shower. Be patient it will get hot. Pool / hot tub closes at 5 pm. Bad. Registration process is broken. For the four days I stayed, there was always a lineup of 10+ people to register, 5-10min line up. The front desk was always under staffed. For a first time guest the lobby / casino is huge and not simple to find the elevators to room. Instructions poor. Can only connect 2 devices to wifi at once. Most people today have computer, phone and tablet. Min 3 should be standard. Smoking in hotels is so yesterday.
"Old property badly needs a makeover"
Rooms were pretty nice. Service was meh. Casino was depressing. Breakfast Buffett was horrible especially for the value. Seafood buffet was meh. For all the hype it got it was meh. My main concern was the water temperature in the shower. Never got hot, barely warm. Room was still pretty expensive. Much much better deals down the street. I won't be back to RIO.
"Consistently a Good Place to Stay"
Now that I know people are listening, let me share my experience at The Rio. I have always enjoyed myself at The Rio. I would start my day next door at The Gold Coast Hotel. They have a great breakfast buffet at a good price, if you're a B Connect players club member. I used to eat a coffee and almond croissant at a little bakery/cafe The Rio used to have a few years ago, but the got rid of it. They didn't ask me, or I would've told them to keep it. However, I eat all of my other meals at The Rio. I eat lunch at the food court/deli next to the Sportsbook. They have a variety of food to choose from. I get something to eat, buy a drink, and enjoy a game... or two. For dinner, I eat at the All-American Cafe. I always order the same thing-prime rib with mash potatoes and asparagus-because it's so good and I don't want anything else. But my other family members say, what they've eaten is good as well. After dinner, I hit the tables. The action is centrally located, so the excitement and energy is concentrated in the center of the casino. As a regular card player, I can tell you, I've always felt that I've gotten a fair shake at The Rio... I've won quite a bit and lost my fair share as well, but never felt cheated and had a GREAT TIME in the process. At 3am, when I go to bed, I get to go back to one of the largest STANDARD rooms in Las Vegas. I love all the space, the comfortable bed, the spacious couch with a coffee table and TV. You can practically have a party in your room, but why would you with all of the action downstairs. The ONLY thing I don't like about The Rio is that it's not on the strip and if it wasn't such a long and complicated walk to get to the strip, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Furthermore, I hate paying $20-25 for a taxi, every time I want to go somewhere else. There is a free trolley to other Ceasars casinos, but it's like waiting for the city bus, and I don't like taking the city bus.
"Rio Las Vegas getaway"
Large rooms but dated. The space is wasted. Paint peeling on the hotel exterior. Paper cups in a $200+ per night room' Comon! The hotel needs a makeover. On the upside the Vodoo restaurant is good and has a great view of the Strip.
"Bad customer service and poor overall quality"
Had to call the front desk for a few issues such as cost of WiFi, absence of coffee maker, and a broken lamp. The representative was very rude! The hotel was not cleaned thoroughly, and again, did not have even a coffee maker! Plus, I could often hear the noise from the next room, which means the building quality isn't very good.
