"would have been a 5 if it wasn't for...."
basically it comes down to the fact that if you are going to take a deposit for the room (and obviously won't let me into the room without one) then you should return the deposit as soon as i check out. The hotel said as i checked out that i might not get my deposit back for a week (7 days). When i explained that i would therefore not check out until my deposit was returned (as i couldn't check in until i had given a deposit) they seems to think this was unfair! i know this is nothing new, but 7 days i tantamount to stealing in my opinion. the sad thing is they would have got 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for that - but i'm not going to say why as it was ruined by not returning my deposit. oh, and the in house casino is a dump
"Great Hotel with large room at affordable prices"
Hotel and rooms are very big and clean. Many Chinese restaurants are nearby, especially down in the alley, around the Hotel corner, a nice restaurant selling, rice rolls, chicken w/ rice, BBQ & roast pork/duck with rice, wonton noodles soup. Next to this restaurant, there is a bakery shop Yamazaki selling cakes, egg tarts. Supermarket and 7/11 are also located across the street in the small alleys. Within walking distance via a small garden you will find much more restaurants and MGM. The other side of Rio, you can walk to Sands Macau to take a Sands' free shuttle bus to The Venetian. You can also walk to the food street Rua do Cunha by the passage beside The Venetian. To return to Rio, just take a free shuttle bus, from The Venetian, destination Sands Macau, don't take the wrong bus, and walk back to Rio. From Rio, there are buses to Senado Square, Ah ma Temple which The Grand Lisboa, Wynn etc are on the way. A fine Vinha Portuguese restaurant is not far from Rio, just ask the direction from the Reception. For those who don't want to go far for casino elsewhere, Rio has casino located at the lower ground floor too. Would recommend Rio as the room rates (room only - no ABF) are affordable and everything up to standard. Most tourist attractions are within the walking distance. From Grand Lisboa, Wynn we returned to the hotel on foot.
"Good hotel for money"
The hotel building is decent, rooms are large, service is good. The only issue is location. It is far from places I was want to visit. Rent this place only if it is $50 or $60 cheaper than hotels in better locations. You can spend this money on taxi.
Took 1 and a half hours to check in due to multiplec check in lines. Horrible food after 10:00pm and very over priced. The room was great, no complaints. I wouldn't stay at hotel unless you are a chain smoker, not hunger, and don't care about your service.
took me a while finding the right hotel for me and my friends we actually booked another hotel prior to this one but later on cancelled that one and booked Rio I love that it's not that huge as other hotels in Macau but it looks magnificent and the room was clean and really spacious.. I booked the family room for the 3 of us and was impressed with the room size considering other hotels doesnt have that big of a room. It looks and feel really clean.. from the beddings to the toilet .. the only downside is the scaffolding in front of your window.. but that's just a minor thing.. considering we were out the whole day. My friend had an upset stomach on our first day there..good thing there's a pharmacy just across the hotel and a 7/11 as well.. Filipino doorman were also helpful cause other nationalities couldnt speak or understand english well and they would just say "i dont know" front desk staff should be taught how to deal with clients as well cause whenver we would as directions from them they would have a hard time communication and would ask the doorman / bell boy to assist us instead.. there's also a bus stop in front of the hotel entrance holiday inn and metropark is also walking distance.. as well as grand prix and wine museum.. Breakfast was just so so for me.. everything was cold..sausage..ham..noodles..etc Design and ambiance and cleanliness wise..ill give it a 4 star
