"A 4 star hotell'"
A top place for Copacabana but is a 5star hotell. May be 2,5 -3 but never 4. Sloppy staff, no top cleaning, leakage in the roof, no respons on claiming. OK bar, Nice staff there but too high prices ' The standards have been degrading.
"Great location for New Years Eve!"
I have been coming to Rio for many years and this hotel has always been here so it must be over 35 years old. I also have stayed here years ago so it wasn't my first time, I was familiar with the hotel. I chose this hotel for the 2016/2017 New Year eve timeframe because it had a good price and was exactly located where I wanted to be. Considering the high season and full capacity of Rio in general I knew little issues would arise as in any hotel they would so I was expecting them but overall my stay here was pleasant and it was exactly as I expected. I was told by the front desk that since the hotel was filled to capacity that most likely there would not be any chairs or umbrellas available at the beach. When I went to the beach I was approached by a local vendor renting chairs, I told him I was looking for the Othon attendant, he brought me to him, he was sitting in a chair laughing with his friends, I asked him for a chair, he looked bothered and told me nothing left. I looked around the beach area myself and in about 10 minutes I found 2 chairs and an umbrella vacant and pulled them all together. Then another local vendor tout came to offer me drinks so he set me up with a table and some drinks and told me that he would get me chairs everyday don't worry if they're out of them. I knew that they would charge me heavy for that service as for the most part they overcharge the tourists here. Then the attendant from Othon approached me and told me it was his birthday and I should give him a present LOL how sad. Then the next day there were 4 of us going to the beach and one of the local touts tried to grab me before I found the Othon attendant and I told him to wait, this time I didn't even look for the Othon attendant I hustled up some chairs for myself but couldn't get 4 so I told the local tout to fill in the blanks, he got us the extra chairs and umbrellas as we needed along with tables and drinks and I paid him well for that, I never saw the Othon attendant. They charge for ice, Ok so I ordered ice and it was like $3 no big deal but on New Years eve I ordered ice and it was like $25, I wasn't going to pay $25 to chill my coke I got from the mini bar LOL, I sent it back what a disgrace. As others mentioned yes the elevators were very slow took 30 minutes to get to breakfast, yes one day I had to walk down the stairs otherwise I would have missed breakfast. Yes the pool is small but maybe 40 years ago when they built the hotel they could have used the whole roof for the pool instead of putting a restaurant there LOL. I would definitely stay here again if the need ever was there for this location and a family stay. The people at the front desk were very nice and helpful, overall a good stay!
The hotel is pretty good, comfortable beds and pillows, all smell good and clean. I already came prepared for st noise as I request front view, but I was there to party, so I didn't care one time I wasn't there to sleep. We had 2 rooms, both in good standing, beds king in one room and 2 queen in the kids room and front ocean view as we asked for. Elevators working properly and a good standard breakfast. The location can't be better, we see the sunrise from the bar across st every morning while drinking the coldest beer you can imagine. Just avoid drink at their bar, you will feel like they are calling you stupid for the price they charge. Just step out in anywhere close by if you feel like drinking while waiting for taxi or friends. I definitely will be there again if in the same period of the year. I went beginning of December.
"Didn't stay here, but came here for drinks with friends- was impressed."
Top Shelf hotel with gorgeous facilities, right in the heart of Rio. For upscale Europeans primarily, but all types were welcome. Ice cold beer with a panoramic view in their bar. Loved it. Intend on coming back here again during Carnival!
"Stay away from this favela"
After a long trip from Australia, we were hot and tired and straight away our much anticipated trip was off to a bad start with worse to come. We arrived via taxi from the airport and we had to drag our luggage up the ramp into the hot and steamy reception area as there was no one to direct or help us. After requesting and early check in via email (which was never answered) we waited in line for 45 minutes , taking it in turns. Once at the counter we were told to ( come back later and take a non existent seat in the foyer, all full) . We were never offered a cool drink of water and made a decision to go next door to a small and cool restaurant. Upon returning after 2 hours , our complaints went unnoticed and eventually were shown to our room on the 20th floor. Wow it's amazing how different they look on the website. Extremely small and dated bathroom, mouldy curtains, dodgy air-conditioning, walk sideways balcony, pay per bottle water ( very expensive and tap water is not safe to drink) . During our 8 day stay our toilet was cleaned once, the toilet paper was not replenished on a number of occasions, the mini bar water was not replenished, hot water varied from day to day. Hand towels and floor mats were sometimes not replaced. Beach towels are a pain to access and if you forget to return them by 7pm you are charged for there cost on your bill . This is when you have to take dirty, sandy towels to reception to hand them over the counter and then return back to the basement to collect new towels and then deal with the beach. The so called beach sun lounges were always full and when we finally did get 2, the guy in charge provided a service where he would get drinks and food for us.It wasn't until the next day we realised that he had charged us more than double for everything and ripped us off. So much for an employee of the hotel looking after us, discusted. The roof top swimming pool was always busy and the water too hot and cloudy. The waiters there are reminiscent of Fawlty Towers and regularly forgot orders or dismissed our frantic waving. The lifts are prone to breaking down and are sometimes impossible to access due to being full and lines waiting to use them. Lines to the breakfast are also common. We paid over 7000 real of our hard earned savings and believe that a hotel of this purported standard should go back to basics and put the patron first and not the profits.
