"I was called "GRINGA" when I asked to spoke with the manager"
Just disgraceful. It's shocking that a manager of a 4-star hotel in Leblon would talk to someone over the phone in such an unprofessional manner. I asked to speak with the reservation manager; called many times and finally after 3 or 4 attempts, the same woman that answer my calls before decided to present herself as the one in charge of reservations. she said her name was Silvia. And during my last call, she asked me to wait, which I did for several minutes, but i guess she didn't realize I could still hear her. Then, I heard her say: there is a GRINGA on the phone and I don't want to speak with her. Really'!'
I booked this hotel online, after a quick search and review of other guests' comments - some of them not so positive... I have to say I am positively surprised- the room is spacious (for a family of 4!), comfortable, good breakfast, attentive staff, and best of all, EXCELLENT location! Can't ask for anything better....
"Had the same batcave experience"
As others I had the same batcave experience as others as I was given a no-windows-room at first. I asked for a change that led me to a broken air-con room. So I had to go to a third one that yes was finally ok. PROS: location, nice neighboorhood CONS: all the nightmares with the rooms, there is no restaurant, worst wifi ever
"In the right place !"
Located close to aLeblon beach (few minutes walk), close to great restaurants (ex. Suhhi Leblon, Quadrucci) great juice and scack (on the corner, BB), supermaket and pharmacies (in the front). Taxi stop point in the front. Staff are very friendly and helpfull Room is simple but clean.
"A mixed bag."
Comfortable rooms, very good beds, mostly friendly staff. It's a nice location -- upscale, safe -- but too far from the town center and many tourist sites. Consequently, we spent a lot of money on cabs, or took a bus to the nearest metro station a couple of miles away. A new metro station was being built nearby (Jan. 2016). Some pluses: a very nice view from out balcony, and a quick walk to several excellent restaurants: in particular Zuka, which we went to three times in one week. Excellent food and drinks, and an elegant, friendly, extremely helpful staff. Disappointed in some of the staff, in particular one aloof desk clerk who arranged two very disappointing tours: a) Scenarium, a legendary samba club in the Lapa district (we asked to have dinner at Scenarium, but our tour took us first to a tacky tourist joint with a mediocre buffet); and b) a samba school rehearsal (a very uncomfortable bus that made multiple stops at countless hotels, and took three hours to deliver us to the samba school). In both cases, we could've saved $ and been much more comfortable taking a cab directly to the destination. Our desk clerk should've told us that. The breakfast buffet is generally good but the coffee is HORRIBLE. Every morning we went out for coffee. Avoid Oceanica, the laundry service next door. They will rob you blind. In retrospect, we would have rather stayed closer to Ipanema or to the juncture of Ipanema and Copacabana.
