"Very friendly staff but not very effective!"
The Rossi Hotel is on the edge of the old town so is well placed for sight seeing. The hotel is clean although a little tired, the staff very friendly and the rooms a good size. However the rooms are not at all sound proofed so in our rooms overlooking the courtyard each night we were woken up each night by the sound of the rubbish bins at around 1pm. On the second night though we were kept awake most of the night by the family with small children in the room next to us. In fact the children and adults in the room next to us woke us up regularly throughout the night for the next three nights. We did complain to reception, twice, but although very pleasant they did nothing to alleviate the problem. The worse thing was that our party had two rooms and the family was put in the room between our rooms so they managed to keep all of us awake. The other thing worth pointing out is that the breakfast is poor and not a 4 star standard. The orange juice is orange squash and one morning I had to wait for over 30 minutes for a fried egg, despite being told twice it would be 5 minutes. In the end I had to resort to standing next to the kitchen door until the eggs appeared. Not good service!
"Boutique hotel - unfortunately budget mentality."
We "upgraded" to the Rossi hotel - needing a twin room, and hopefully more space. The room was absolutely tiny - you could not walk between the beds. There was also a glass window between one of the beds and the bathroom. Not my idea of privacy. The room was not serviced, beyond the bin being emptied and the towels changed. On the positive side, the location is excellent. A short walk to the main sights. Breakfast is fine - but not what I would call four star. Our room overlooked an inner courtyard, so was very noisy at night. This is a good hotel - as long as your expectations are not too high - or too "boutique."
"Luxurious hotel with very good location"
Simply fell in love with this hotel. Excellent service, lovely rooms, wonderful breakfast and very good location. Had reserved a de luxe room for 3 nights during Easter 2017. As none were ready upon our arrival, we were given a brand new standard room and were upgraded to executive room for the remaining 2 nights to make up for the inconvenience. The standard room was very pleasant, too (we were the very first guests there), and so was the bathroom. The executive room was wonderful: very spacious with an immense bathroom. There was even an old fireplace (non-working) in the bathroom! Lovely amenities (Hermes), excellent quality hairdryer, and even a bidet. Our room was overlooking the Fontanka river, which was very nice. Breakfast was excellent with many choices ranging from cheese, cereal, omelettes, vegetables to pancakes and pastry. Very good coffee, which is extremely rare. The location is very good at a 5-minute-walk from the Nevsky Prospect/Anichkov Bridge. Takes about 35 min to walk to the Hermitage Museum, 10 min to Faberge Museum. A cat cafe and a minimarket 24/7 are located at 100 meters from the hotel. Staff is most friendly and helpful. The hotel chauffeur picked us up at the Finland railway station (900 r), took us to the Hermitage Museum (600 r) and back to the railway station. Very convenient. One small minus were the beds which were a bit too hard to my liking. I have no hesitation in giving this hotel 5 stars out of 5. Will definitely revisit.
"Good location, average hotel"
The hotel was in a good location. However the actual hotel was average. The rooms were tired and musty - the windows open so you can air them out but this is also a little dangerous, especially for children. The beds are not comfy and are two single beds pushed together. There is a spa but hotel customers can only use the pool, gym etc for free between certain hours in the morning. The breakfast was not very good - there was not a huge selection and the waiters were not very quick or helpful. There was a baby and small child staying in the room next to me and there were very noisy - the hotel were not helpful in the situation which meant I was kept up for most of the night.
"Modern luxury in classy old building"
Nice stay, close to major attractions. Old building nicely renovated. Antique furniture and art gives a touch of class. Staff helpful and committed. Breakfast choice includes Russian porridge and sausage. I felt at home, a real guest more than a tourist.
