"Very nice "
Had booked our room thru Amex travel and was not disappointed. We were upgraded before we arrived and the room was amazing. The view was excellent. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We were given the full treatment with a tour of the hotel and our room. The concierge desk was a great help in suggesting points of interest in the local area(Thanks Frank). The building is old with great history to it and the room was very modern.
"Nice hotel shows a little age"
Great location near the beach and a nice Casino, this hotel must have been very special in the heyday of Deauville, sometime in the forties. Lots of celebrity guests have photos on the wall. The front desk staff is terrific and they handle what can be a crowd, as it is a huge place. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Plenty of robes, slippers, etc. nice view of the sea. Breakfast was 74 euros for two, I thought that a bit pricey for the Continental option, but it was fine, the usual croissants and coffee. All in all a fine choice. Dinner in the restaurant was fine also, as we stuck to the classic sole meunière which was perfectly done.
We loved our trip to the Hotel Barriere . Wonderful grand old style with the most charming staff. I would recommend a long weekend in Deauville. Such a gorgeous town with delicious food and high end shopping. Not a Starbucks in sight . Next door ,walking distance is Trouville with sensational fruit de Mer. What's there not to like !!!
"Comfortable but ..."
The staff are fabulous in all respects. They really are brilliant. The food is good and the margaritas are the best we have ever tasted. The negatives - the air conditioner in our room was terribly noisy; the food and drink prices are outrageous; the toilet did not have an extractor fan or a basin to wash hands (in our country this is illegal); lots of dogs so beware if you don't want a room previously occupied by a dog with fleas; the background music in the lounge area is too loud, there is a repetitive playlist and some of the song choices are not exactly quiet background music; the piano player is great but too loud; there is no outside deck restaurant or bar area with a sea view ... The positives - the wonderful staff; the view from the sea facing rooms; the beds; the free upgrade; the margaritas; the central but quiet location ... This is not really a five star hotel but might have been 30 years ago. A bit of an old age home albeit a very comfortable one. Where do they get the wonderful staff from'
"Lovely, but ......."
I first holidayed at the Le Royal some 20 years ago and it’s a lovely hotel, as is, Deauville; Deauville has a lot to offer. The reception staff are lovely, always wanting to help, as does, the General Manager, Mr C Casabo. Knowing the rooms do not have air-con, I requested a fan and it was provided immediately. The bottle of champagne and strawberries were a lovely gesture as my wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary; it was very thoughtful and much appreciated. But the hotel is a tad ‘tired’ and that is a great shame because, currently, it’s not 5* (drinks reflect 5* prices). There is a refurbishment programme in progress with the Spa but the guests need to be informed prior to arrival regarding how the work will impact; drilling and grinding noise is not constructive to relaxing. I would recommend that the hotel looks to ‘special discounts’ to avoid potential guests cancelling. (Mr Casabo, I can suggest some ways.) The pool was closed for a number of days due to maintenance and again guests should have been informed prior to arrival; it would have been helpful. When it was opened, 3 loungers seemed to be continually reserved from the outset (0800 hours) with just towels, no personal possessions, and in 3 days I only saw a women and her daughter occupy them for just 10 minutes. I asked Mr Casabo to explain what the hotel policy was on reserving loungers because, in my view, this was indefensible – he wanted to ‘please everyone’ – unfortunately, he hadn’t. I would recommend that a policy is published to state how long loungers can be reserved, if at all, say a maximum of 2 hours. My room was adequate – you don’t spend too long in them but the toilet was not what I expected in a 5* hotel – separate from the ensuite and with no wash basis – very unhygienic and hygiene in any hotel is vital. The bedside tables need a drawer or need to be bigger – what with the telephone and lamp, I did not have any room for my spectacles. The App needs to be updated – still shows that there is a booking fee for sun loungers. You have acknowledged and shared my feedback from your standard survey. I hope you found it helpful as I do from this review. As I say, lovely people and Deauville is a lovely place but …..
