"Nice hotel in a great location"
A little crowded for me but they may have been a result of Art Basel. Very cool hotel in S. Beach, right in the middle of everything going on on Miami Beach. Great place for a night out or a getaway with a bunch of friends.
"Not impressed... it's alright but not great"
I stayed here for a business meeting in June. When I checked in, I got my key and went up to my room. In my room I found a vacuum cleaner in my sitting area, and a toilet brush and other cleaning products in my shower: they had clearly not finished yet so they should not have given me the key. The rooms are sizeable though and have a quirky sitting area: the atmosphere is very in tune with the Miami vibe. The meeting rooms: the walls in between are not sound proof, so if you have a noisy group next to you, you can hear what is going on. Generally, I don't think Miami Beach is great for business meetings, this is more a holiday destination

"Horrible customer service - top to bottom"
My wife is traveling to Miami to meet a friend from Johannesburg. I wanted to book them a nice room to enjoy their "girls weekend" (spoiler alert - this was not the right place to accomplish this goal). My wife found out today (the day she's leaving for Miami from San Diego) that shes pregnant (hooray!) but created concerns given the Zika virus outbreak in Miami. The Royal Palms is literally in the center of the CDC Zika Virus "Red Zone" which advises pregnant women not to travel to this area. If you're pregnant, you might want to consider a hotel a little north of here where the CDC says is out of the "Zika Red Zone". My wife and I are pretty mellow and pragmatic and weren't planning to cancel the trip but decided to call the hotel to see if they could offer any guidance.... we called and spoke with Ingrid at the front desk. One of the worst customer service interactions possibly in the history of all customer service interactions. Skillfully trained in customer service avoidance, Ingrid answered the front desk phone "hello'"... nice touch. My wife wasn't sure she reached the right number and asked "Is this the Royal Palms'". Ingrid has been well trained to not be phased by pesky customers so she replied tactfully "yes". Off to a good start. We voiced our concern to Ingrid who sounded half asleep (to her credit she stayed awake the entire call... barely). After carefully considering our concerns (Zika can horribly disfigure our future baby... should we be worried) Ingrid replied with an all time horrible customer service answer (seriously this is verbatim... cant make this up) - "I don't know anyone with Zika... you should be fine". Someone notify the CDC... Ingrid doesn't know anyone with Zika... the alert should be lifted. I jumped in at that point and asked Ingrid to speak to a manager. Ingrid replied "no". No explanation.. just no. Getting aggravated at this point continued asking for a manger in every way I knew how only to get replies of "we don't have a manger on duty"... "there is no manager near me"... "all the managers are busy"... this went on for literally 3 or 4 minutes. Finally got a manager on the phone - Pradeep Bobba - GENERAL MANAGER! Thank god, finally I can talk to someone who cares! Wrong. Pradeep opened by saying "This is a hotel, not a healthcare facility. If you want to learn about Zika, google it". Cant make this stuff up. Horrible customer service hall of fame. Needless to say, we cancelled the reservation at the Royal Palms and will not be booking this property in the future. We rebooked at another hotel in the area who was nice enough to at least pretend they cared about our concerns. After reading the reviews and seeing pictures of gross furniture and stories of terrible customer service, I'm glad we did. I've read a lot of reviews on this property and can confidently speculate that the terrible customer service noted in review after review starts at the top. Unless there's a change in senior management this will always be a crappy roadside hotel in a really really nice location. Shame it'll never live up to its full potential with a derisive, indifferent senior management team.
