"Holiday stay for Revellion 2017"
This hotel is very average. Pros - Close to beach Lots of eating options nearby Close to train station Onsite restaurant and bar, with free breakfast Affordable Cons - Wifi is highly unreliable and you will have to use one of the 3 computers on site IF the internet is even working. I usually don't care about wifi because I like to disconnect on vacation, however, not being able to use Uber or Google Maps or Yelp or WhatsApp or other communication, is a great inconvenience while on a trip. Air conditioning is okay once it kicks in, and this can take a while because the electricity in the room is only activated by key card. Pool area is tiny for the size of the hotel so you need to wait for a chair or spot around the pool. No airport shuttle but taxi help is offered and was pretty quick.
"New Year's Eve 2016"
I am not one to complain but we're to start the electric went out in all of the building in the night but this meant that the a/c was not on then went down stairs to find a truck across the front of the building with a generator on the back of it pumping out lots of black smoke to address the no electricity, building work at the pool side, light switch hanging of the wall, a stair on the bridge over the pool a piece of plastic tubing propping it up, I had to go to reception to change my key card 7 times as I could not get in my room ,the continental breakfast did not cater for the brit's but can I say the staff were brilliant very helpful.
"Royal Rio palace "
Owing to the massive demand for hotels over New Year, this hotel takes advantage of this and provides a lackluster service. The wifi didn't work most of the stay (with zero apology). Enormous cockroaches throughout the room, little English spoken by bar and waiter staff which made ordering food and drink near impossible, no such thing as an ironing board and reception staff disinterested. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
"Very good value, especially for Copacabana"
Well priced (for an upmarket hotel located near Copacabana), Royal Rio is an excellent option if you need a comfortable, quiet place to stay close to the centre of Rio. The staff are efficient and helpful, and the location is also very good- within walking distance of both Copacabana and Botafogo. There is also a cab rank very close (but it is easy enough to hail a cab in this area). Some minor issues include the fact that one of the elevators was out of order during my stay, so on occasion it could be quite a wait for a lift, and also that the restaurant can be ridiculously busy at breakfast times (I would advise coming for breakfast as early as possible if crowds are not your thing). I would recommend the nearby lebanese restaurant 'Amir' for lunch. In all my stay at Royal Rio was very pleasant- a reasonably priced and luxurious hotel.
"Near Copacabana Beach"
This place is near Copacabana Beach. The staff was friendly and spoke English. Be careful as this place is in a high crime area. I went out with my camera around my neck and some old lady told me to hide it. The room was clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was good.
