"Feel Just Right - Class Without Pretension"
We have an annual Thanksgiving gathering of our kids and grandkids, and the French Quarter of New Orleans has been the spot four out of the past six years. Each of the four weeks were spent at the Royal Sonesta, where the good times do roll. Several of the staff, from the lead doorman to the concierge, have recognized us over subsequent visits and greeted us as if we were old friends. Having folks acknowledge you as a "regular" when you visit once a year is an exceptional treat; as is having a bellman volunteer to help us and comment on our staying "in our usual rooms". Aside from prime staffing, the property is beautiful and well-maintained, with evening security that adds to your sense of relaxation (especially when grandchildren are along). The Mayfield Jazz club is always looked forward to, and the Quarter's atmosphere over Thanksgiving week is toned-down enough to make strolling and shopping a delight. Add the easy on-sight valet parking, and you can't have a better stay. We think of it as classy but not snobbish.
"Complete ambivalence in the French Quarter"
The Front Desk staff is the worst I've ever experienced in any hotel, in any city. At check in time, the 500+ room a night wasn't ready. "Come back in 15 minutes," I was told. "We'll take care of your luggage." They wheeled my luggage into the middle of the lobby, where people were coming and going off of Bourbon Street, while I was out. After 20 minutes, I located my luggage and they blankly told me again," Your room's not ready. It'll be 5 more minutes." They showed no knowledge of what the hold up was, or if the room would be ready at all. After an hour, they still had no knowledge when the room would be ready, or if it would be at all. With dinner reservations and an event to attend, I called another exclusive hotel around the block, secured a reservation and was in my suite at another hotel within 10 minutes. The best part of my experience with the Royal Sonesta was leaving. I can't imagine having myself or my family be in a truly difficult situation staying at the Royal Sonesta and them having the least bit of concern for my well being. I will never attempt to stay at the Royal Sonesta again.
"Thank you "

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. These are the reasons why: 1) location: right on Bourbon Street and across from Cafe Beignet which is comparable to Cafe du Monde (and a lot closer for the early morning hit of beignets) 2) clean 3) great bath amenities 4) earplugs if street noise (parties and music) keep you up. Etc.... We are already thinking of heading back!
Highly recommend this hotel. Gorgeous lobby , super comfy rooms. Celebrated sons 18th birthday requested chocolate cake at 8:30 in the morning, delivered right on time. Absolutely wonderful experience. THANK YOU Royal Sonesta!!!!!
