"More Pros than Cons at this Sao Conrado Property"
Selected as the location of a business conference, we opted to stay at the Royal Tulip hotel on Sao Conrado beach. Pros: very friendly and helpful staff; good mattress on the bed and good water pressure in the shower. Breakfast is included and is terrific. Lots of fresh fruit, breads, meats, juices and the chef makes a wonderful omelet. It's in a quiet part of Rio. Think everybody gets a balcony with a fantastic view! Everything was very clean. Internet pretty good. Cons: We understand that they are renovating some rooms but ours was not one of them. Rugs old, chair at table lost all its padding. Older tub and shower. No wash clothes in the bathroom. Chairs on the balcony would have been a nice addition. Food in bar only okay. It's a distance from the more popular parts of Rio though there is a very nice shopping mall behind the hotel in which we had spectacular sushi at a very reasonable price. Nice shops there too. We didn't learn until the last day that there are nice tennis courts behind the hotel. The pool area is very well maintained and the bar service was very accommodating ALTHOUGH the pool is only three feet deep and the hours are limited. Closed at 6 p.m. one day - too late for swimming after a day of conference meetings. Does have a nice wading pool and play area for children. We did not get to the fitness center but it appears to be a membership club for folks in the neighborhood too. About the beach: very nice with an area with chairs and umbrellas set aside for the Royal Tulip. Free to use but a small tip for the beach guy is a nice gesture since he is also ensuring your items stay safe. The waves were pretty big when we were there but doable if you are a good swimmer. We understand that it is not a place to swim after a big rain because of sewage run-off. Walking down the promenade toward Barra on a Saturday, we encountered a woman selling her own food at a stand. Authentic cornbread sandwich with incredible fillings for only $4.50 US. Cool to watch the para-gliders land on the beach. Overall very positive experience. Very reasonably priced for Rio and kid friendly.
"Great Location for the Half Marathon"
Been here for the half marathon, hotel and rooms are good, not excellent. Service is also good Location is very nice. Just in front of the beach and having also the São Conrado Fashion mall across the street I would stay here again.
"Good stay, nice room"
Good quality hotel in a very nice zona sul area. Long from the main RJ attractions but great for the aficionados. Gym management is a bit too strict on clothing requirements and I couldn't use it. Too bad
"Good Hotel with a lot of Ups and Downs"
I stayed in the hotel for 2 days (Friday to Sunday) and it was a delightful experience. Their qualities are really confusing, offering some real 5 star hotel services, but lacking really bad on some other features. The room was remodeled, with an OK bed, old TV (but an LCD one), real wood furniture, AMAZING view and a really old bathroom. So when I was in my room, it look liked a 5 star hotel, but when I entered the bathroom, it looked liked I was send back to a 2~3 star hotel. Not what I was expecting. The service is good. Some people a really nice and helpful, but other are not. Nothing exceptional or bad to comment about. Breakfast is really good. Lot's of variety with really good quality. I really liked. And it was from 6am to 11am, which is great! I got the room on a flash deal the Hotel does one Monday per month. Really great value. But everything in the hotel was so expensive! My God! They try to charge me 90BRL for renting a bicycle for 1 day, but in front of the hotel they had a really good quality public bikes for 5BRL for 24 hours!!! Renting at the hotel is 18 times more expensive!!! Beer was 14BRL, water 6.50BRL, and there forth. The only thing I thought had good value was the room service. Would could pay 40BRL for a Cheeseburger (really expensive), but you could pay 58BRL for a Shrimp Risotto (great value)!!! The location is complicated. Is nearby a colossal "favela", called "Rocinha" and there is not a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. So if you are going there to enjoy the night, it's not ideally located. But during the day is perfect. They have a small beach in front of the hotel which is great for walking and riding bikes. I got my bike and went to Barra neighborhood and was a great ride!!! Overall, I recommend and will be back to the hotel.
"The most gracious staff at a beautiful location"
loved staying here. the location is perfect, being directly across the street from the beach. perfect for the morning run and beautiful mountain views. i was here for the olympic games and it couldn't be more perfect. the rooms were very comfortable and very clean. the staff were very helpful and friendly. yes you can tell that there were rooms that were renovated and others were not but that still did not hinder having a great stay there. I cannot stress enough how amazing the staff was and their willingness to help with anything. it is also literally a 10-15 min cab or uber ride from Ipanema and leblon, 20 minutes to copacabana. Wifi is easily accessible and hardly any interruptions. the restaurant at the hotel is great, the bar is a great place to hang out.. if you don't want to eat at the hotel, the Fashion Mall is steps away where you can find great restaurants and shops...i highly recommend Farm for awesome clothes. thanks royal Tulip...i miss you already
