Very Good hotel close to domestic airport. Excellent food choices especially for breakfast. recently renovated. Good for business as well as leisure travel. Reasonable tariff.Food is very costly as compared to room rent.
Here's the experience and you will understand what Sahara Star hospitality is. I had a confirmed reservation through my travel agent. I checked in 11 am and had a long conversation with the receptionist - he said he had no room yet, since the hotel was full. I was told I had to wait in the lobby and at 3 pm I could check in. I had travelled all night, tired from changing flights and expected an hour or twos wait - I even offered to sit in the cafe and give the hotel some F&B business. However, the receptionist said he could give me a twin bedroom. He actually said Queen size twin beds ! I believed him and took it. Enter the room and I realize immediately that the two beds in the room were too small for my body frame. But I did not make a fuss. I took the room, and worked on my office work - took me a long time to get the wifi connection. Then I noticed mosquitos in my room. I took care of them with my bath towel. I ordered lunch through In Room Dining. It took an hour to get to my room, the Server kept looking at me after I signed the bill, literally soliciting for tips. Being in this business myself, gave me the shivers ! The price of my Non Veg Thali was a whopping Rs 1700. That price would have been worth the food if that was good food, but I could not finish the meal - it was bland, stale smell of the mutton and sweet kheer was poor quality. I felt hungry and decided to order In Room Dining again. This time I ordered for a Chole Bhatura and a bowl of yogurt. Same behaviour from this other Server. This chap was specially bad because he had very long hair that was very unkept. This was a better choice for me and I satisfied my hunger. I could not sleep and decided to have a beer. Mini Bar is supposed to be a SERVICE not a HUGE revenue and profit centre - At Sahara Star, the Mini Bar items are very expensive. The two 330ml bottles of beer cost me around Rs 1000. The cost is 78 each, and they charge about 500 after taxes ! I called for the duty Manager and asked for a room change. The initial response on the phone was very unprofessional and decided not to bother the hotel staff. There was no Service Culture in this hotel. Except for the security man who stands near the elevators, who always had a smile and wished people who would pass him......every one else thinks that they are doing the guests a large favour ! Even when I asked to speak to the GM, I was told by the Operator that "He is not answering his phone sir'" A few minutes later the Duty Manager called and asked if I would like to move to a room that had a queen size bed and I accepted the gesture. Good Room, well stocked with better amenities than my first room. Went down to the All Day Dining restaurant for breakfast and the place was busy, one hostess who was running from desk to tables seating a line up of guests, me included. There were two other staff that looked and behaved like Restaurant Managers. Both were standing and looking around the restaurant in a serious conversation- not even able to offer any help to the Hostess and keeping guests in line..... The quality of breakfast was nothing to brag about. The South Indian cook was making dosas was the only staff member that looked happy at work. Every other staff member looked and behaved as if the guests were "numbers " in their daily routine. Nothing that showed any good service culture. My total F&B for a lunch, snack, light dinner and two 330ml beers - more than Rs 6,000. That's definitely worth paying if there was a better service culture and improving the food quality.
"Internet and TV Poor"
Plus: 1. Rooms are very pretty 2. Service was excellent Negatives: 1. Internet was worthless UNLESS you were working between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. as I was forced to do. Free Internet' No Internet ... websites would not resolve, nor emails able to be received. They sent up an IT person who suggested I PAY TO UPGRADE! They promote free WiFi and it doesn't work. The cable/satellite service programming failed half the time to provide content. 2. You are captive to the hotel; so, be prepared to pay $5+ for a soft drink and $20+++ for a snack and much more for a meal! 3. A lot of humidity in the hallways together with worn/wrinkled carpet in the hallways which was unsightly.
We were at the Namak Restaurant at Sahara Star to celebrate our Mentors B'day. The ambiance, the service, the food and the hospitality that we received was spot on. The quality and quantity of food was also justified. Had a superb celebration and awesome time. Cheers!!!!!
