"Good, but COULD have been so much better"
There are so many good things about Sala, mentioned by others, so I won't repeat, but there is so much that needs work on if to be a true 5 star hotel, so here goes Infrastructure The place is looking tired and needs work on it, from the painting of facades to steel and wood work. The main paths are a hazard, the paving slabs have moved overtime and there are gaps which have filled with grass, some paving slabs missing and holes, broken ankles are a risk here Service Everyone tries so hard, but in a true 5 star the little things need to be better, examples When you order food the waitress does not always take your menus and then 5 mins later you are asked again. Sometimes the tables are not set correctly when they have been used and knives forks and spoons missing I asked for no garlic on meals , the order is taken with that detail, but then when cooked those in the kitchen dress with garlic, several times I had to send food back. Could be issues if anyone has allergies, . Breakfast service can be sporadic Drink Prices You expect to pay more , but Thai bottle beers in mini bar 130 bht, same in pool bar 190 buy, why is that and you add another 17% on top, Same bottles in Turtle village supermarket 60 Bht. Wine is expensive cheapest bottle 1500 plus 17% so taking it to around 1750 bht so over £42 a bottle Service Charge Now this really annoys me in that everything you buy has 17% added to it as they automatically include 10%, for service charge, that should be your choice to add, so drinks become even more expensive All in all this is a good hotel, providing excellent service, attentive staff, but they need to get on top of a few things, I have been to many 5 star around the world, this is not there, yet. This is not to the same level as Sala Samui, on Koh Samui
"Best place for honeymoon"
All Staff were kind and friendly. Our villa was cleaned every day. The pools and sea view of the hotel were wonderful. This hotel is very peaceful and the rooms are realy isolated :) thanks for everything this was unforgettable:))
"It could have been great, if only..."
We stayed at the Sala for 4 nights. It was a mixed bag of experiences. First, the good: The pool villa was as promised - almost a resort unto itself, with a huge private pool you could actually swim in. Together with the outdoor bathroom and daybed, it all made for an incredibly romantic stay. The resort's main pools were also fantastic - one large lap pool for a proper swim, set near the beach, and two other lounging pools, all surrounded by lovely gazebos and deckchairs. The overall design of the resort is white, grey and very modern - a big difference from its neighbouring resorts. The bad: The service - for us, service makes or breaks any hotel/resort. Here, the service was strangely inconsistent. The more experienced and senior staff knew what to do, but for most of the time, staff were slow, inattentive or insufficiently deferential. On one occasion in the restaurant, we had to remind three different waiters before one of them remembered to switch off the fan above our heads. Glasses of water were only refilled when prompted, and staff just couldn't seem to remember simple requests if they were distracted by another table after attending to us. At breakfast (food was so-so), a waiter had to be reminded to serve us coffee. At the pool, we had to wave over staff to get towels and water, instead of them looking out for us. When we wanted service by the main pool, one of the poolside staff told us that wasn't his area of work- he apparently only served the lounging pools. We had to get a menu from the bar ourselves. Yet within half an hour, that same poolside staff member was seen packing up the deck chairs at the main pool area. Clearly, he simply couldn't be bothered to serve us. Overall, our stay at the Sala was good, but could have been great if only service was more consistent and on point.
Hands down our favorite resort in Thailand!! This intimate & absolutely gorgeous resort is a must if you are looking rot relax & unwind. We ended our 2.5 week trip in Thailand here and it was perfect. The resort is breathtaking. The ocean is steps away from the grounds & you can enjoy listening to the waves. The pool, the food, the service & staff were wonderful. We would definitely stay at any Sala resorts in Thailand on our next visit. Don't forget to bring home "Sala's signature scent" so it can take you back anytime you smell it.
Generally a nice hotel in a quiet area. For the price of the hotel, I would have expected impeccable service - unfortunately it is very bad. Hotel ran out of pool towels every single day and the ones we were given had holes in them. Room was not cleaned for 2 days. Medication was thrown away. Meals were forgotten. Waiting staff was extremely slow. Loud renovations and lawn mowing on the weekend (so not good for a quiet short trip). The longer your stay the worst the service seems to get. Eventhough this was all raised to the hotel staff - a few more additional hours of late check-out could not be accommodated.
