Amazing place to stay at for a weekend get away. Walking distance to great restaurants.Comment of H. Elizabeth , United States the 2016-05-16
"Awesome Location and Pool Area"
We stayed here for a business conference with little expectations other than a nice hotel. However, the view of the harbor was spectacular. It was perfect walking distance for the gas lamp district as well. If you want a great place to lounge by the pool, this is it. The pool area has a great waterfall with good service for menu items as well. There is a really nice walkway off the hotel that takes you along the harbor, shopping and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.
"A bit sterile and corporate but well done in great location"
If you are going for a convention it is a great spot and in a perfect location. Located next to convention center but also walking distance to sooo many restaurants, bars, shopping and other entertainment downtown which is very clean and well kept. Went on the very cold and windy weekend, but still enjoyed the walks by the harbor/seaport village, to the Midway Museum/Air Craft Carrier (a must visit for history/military buffs), and the ferry to Coronado (on the nicer day). Higher end Marriott means you will have good amenities everywhere and efficient employees. The work out room is one of the nicer gyms you will see in a hotel and they do offer spin (and probably yoga) classes during the day. Used the spin bike twice mid-morning not during a class and had the whole room to myself. The Marina Bar and Grill is expensive (especially spirits- but love the ice ball) but a great place to relax for breakfast (kids under 12, $10 buffet is a good deal) through late night. Started and ended 3 of my 4 days there . Kids loved the pool area and hot tub (2 separate for kids and adults) even though it was a 60 degree high temperature most of the time. Rooms are what you expect but my big complaint is the door slams shut like a prison. Couldn't sneak out for an early workout without waking all guest in probably a 3 room area. Also thought for the price a loaded minibar should be offered and the room service menu is just their convenient store options which are fine but just walk down and see the options first.
"Better than the Hyatt next door"
I was attending a business conference next door at the Hyatt and was unable to secure a room there so instead booked at the Marriott next door. I had been at another conference 6 months ago at the Hyatt and stayed there. The rooms at the Marriott are newer, bigger and cleaner than the Hyatt. The exercise facilities were about the same. The service was better at the Marriott. I needed a new TV remote and it was delivered within 5 minutes at the Marriott. I had a package delivered to the Hyatt and it was a 30 minute ordeal with the front desk trying to get it. The lobby at the Hyatt is grander but I spend the least amount of time in the lobby so it's irrelevant. I recommend the Marriott compared to the Hyatt if you are staying in the marina area.
"Good Location, Nice Rooms!"
I was only in town one night for work, but it was a great hotel. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. Location is great! Rooms were clean and comfortable. We hosted events onsite and everything was great with conference rooms/catering. The only thing I would recommend is bringing snacks if you want them... the store in the hotel was super pricey!
"Clearly a conference hotel, but great time here with our toddler..."
We came with our 17 mo old and our best friends who have an 11 mo old. We all had a great experience despite this hotel obviously being geared toward the business traveler. Hotel staff: every single member of staff we encountered was super friendly and competent. Great experience from bellhop to shoe shiner to maid service. For a family: there are no bath tubs. They will loan you a fridge bc the room fridges aren't cold enough for milk etc. as with any hotel, a suite will serve you better so you can have a place to hang when your kids go to bed early. The loaner "cribs" are pack n plays. Location: next door to gaslamp quarter. 2 mi from little Italy. Around the corner from seaport village. +2 mi from balboa park. 15 min drive to Coronado. 25 min drive to La Jolla and Torrey pines. Hotel has on location Starbucks, but it closes early. A Roy's restaurant and a Marriott restaurant. They also have a sort of bodega, light fare market. Self parking is $30 a day and valet parking is $50. No reason to valet the self parking is easy and convenient.
