"Paper thin walls, but a nice view."
Is it just handy for housekeeping to cluster all the guests next to each other' This hotel does not feel or act full capacity. We asked to be moved once due to more than one family with little kiddos who were placed next to us. Running in the halls, slamming doors, squealing, basic kids gone wild fun. At 12:30 am ( on a week night) we finally called to see if they could ask them to consider putting the tikes to bed. It was like a pre-school had just moved in! Security did arrive soon and asked them to keep it down. Started back up at 7:15 the next morning. Clearly they are a large group when they are checking in, they should be isolated. We were moved the next day at our request. Luggage was to be in the new room while we were gone for the day, but it was not, they had to find it. Walls are paper thin in the new room as well. 1:30 am we are awakened by a near by female hollering, etc. Next night, 3:40 am two males next door are having a yelling match. We just can't catch a break. In both rooms we could hear water running, closet doors open and close, alarm clocks going off, muffled conversations, you name it. Not restful at all. Outdated rooms, super tiny balcony, tiny bathroom, low ceilings. But, its a nice view! If you don't mind hearing strangers habits in near by rooms, then you might be okay with this hotel. For us, we likely won't return.
The location of this hotel is great. On the marina with awesome views. I'll agree that the rooms in the South Tower are on the small side. Also, the rooms could use extra sound deadening and double panes windows. The street noise is noticeable. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The Gaslamp and Petco are in walking distance. The fitness center is ample and pretty well equipped. The pool area is beautiful. There is a nice bar with live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
"Grand, huge hotel"
This is an impressive hotel. Two towers - north and south. Absolutely beautiful. Restaurant was great. Starbucks is also there. It sits right on the San Diego Marina. Walking distance around it. You can take a harbor cruise as well as a visit to the USS Midway. We used points so I'm not really sure of the cost.
"Some odd choices by management but overall fine"
Pros: - great view in the North tower rooms (and they have balconies!) - comfortable beds - relatively quiet room (and I'm picky about noise) - lovely pool area - good location - good fitness room Cons - no real room service, just stuff you can get from the deli (if you're willing to pay an $8 delivery fee). No lattes, no real dinner choices, mostly just sandwiches etc, that get delivered in a "to go" bag. - missing some of the amenities I'd expect given the pricetag - no robe in room, etc. - store in lobby and restaurant on site both wildly overpriced - don't get a room in the south tower - I saw one of these, and they're tiny and unpleasant.
This hotel was such a disappointment. It is outdated, dirty, and not in any way a luxury hotel. The prices are so incongruous with what you get. Really ruined our 6 days to be in that hotel. The first room we got had no water bottles, was on a low floor facing a trolley that made noise every few minutes and was unwelcoming overall. The next room we got had broken curtains and no robes or slippers. The towels were like cardboard. The water in the bathroom flooded raw sewage into our bathtub. Seriously a disgusting experience.
