This was our first experience and was our 30th anniversary so not what we were expecting! The pictures shown and description on the website are not true to the experience you get. We spent a week there and room was ok, but staff didn't know us as they say they will and restaurants didn't offer much and sometimes closed. If it wasn't for the ability to go to the other two resorts the trip would have been very disappointing. We spent the majority of our time at Montego Bay Resort, thank goodness for traveling on the shuttle daily. There is no real beach and experience to have at the resort. The young lady that worked in gift shop was awesome and friendly which is why I gave it a two. Other staff didn't really greet and speak unless you spoke first and sometimes still didn't speak. NEVER will stay at Caryle again or tell others to stay there, but will hopefully return to Sandal's Montego Bay Resort. Dawnn T.
"Friendliness and excellent service at Sanda Carlyle"
My wife and I had the opportunity to spend a blissful week at Sandal Carlyle May 2016. The staff was warm and friendly and went out of their to make us feel welcomed. This was our second visit and the operations manager, Leighton Josephs upgraded us to a premium room overlooking the azure sea. We enjoyed the excellent food and premium drinks and had the chance to meet the locals by just stepping across the road to the public beach. The area is vibrant and you can walk up to the famous Hip Strip in a matter of minutes. There was the added bonus of taking the free shuttle to sample the other two upscale Sandals resorts which was only a 10 minute drive near the airport. We also hired a car and spent a day at Sandals Negril. All you have to do is show your room key. It's a great concept whereby do not need a day pass to sample all Sandals resorts in Jamaica for free. Big up to the staff for making our stay so enjoyable but please tell Travis to begin playing the music a little bit later in the mornings. After all we are in Jamaica to relax and enjoy the vibes with a late lie-in on some days. We can't wait for our next visit. V Miller from London
"Amazing Honeymoon Vacation!!"
This was our very first trip anywhere so obviously our first time to this resort. We were not disappointed!! We can not say enough nice things about the staff that we encountered at this property. From Miss Allan (the general manager), Jorvan at the front desk, Lamar, Mr Nibbles, Jessica, Eric & Travis, they ALL made you feel like you were family from the moment we arrived til we left. (Even if I didn't name the staff, we did not have a negative experience with any staff member, they were all fabulous!) We also enjoyed the staff at the Royal Carribean property, which included Rohan, Shampoo and Ratti, the food, drinks and service was impeccable. We would def stay here again. We also really enjoyed the fact that there was a shuttle that came every half hour to take you free of charge to all 3 resorts. We used this service frequently to visit the other resorts. The poolside rooms could use new carpet and a fresh coat of paint, but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay at this small resort.
Have stayed at the Carlyle 4 times, including when it was called Sandals Inn. Stay and play. There are two other Sandals locations in Mo Bay that have beach access. Free schuddle to the other locations everyday, by the hour. Keep in mind the beach in the pictures is a public Jamaican beach. This is the best bang for the buck in Jamaica (for Sandals) with a staff that will get to know you quickly since it is so small. Food options are limited because of size but is on par with the other Sandals. Book your food options for any of the resorts when you check in, sometimes they fill up fast. Rooms are fine, bathrooms very standard with a basic tub and are small. Don't forget to check out any of the tours. Horseback riding and the bike tour/kayak tour are good ones. Blue Mountain tour is awesome but is more readily accessible from Ocho Rios.
"Another great stay"
This was our second visit to this hotel and we were not disappointed. This hotel is small and intimate with regular shuttle buses that go to the other much bigger sister resorts that have the beaches , water sports and a great selection of restaurants. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the beach. We really had no issues with noise as so many guests do. Our room had been refurbished recently and it was lovely and understand they will be looking to revamp many of the rooms in the near future as some are fairly tired. We eat at Nibbles a couple of times for lunch which was very nice as well as the bay window for breakfast and dinner and the food was excellent.Mr Nibbles was a fun guy and produced some yummy wraps for us, Cameal at breakfast was an excellent host with a fabulous smile nothing was too much trouble, Lamar is a great bar tender fixing drinks and looking after us with fantastic service in fact all the staff made us feel so welcome they are a credit to the Mr Josef who runs a very happy ship....it shows. My only gripe that there were many activities advertised in the footprint newspaper that never happened eg aquacise at 11am , there was supposed to be scavenger hunt one day it never happened and on a couple of evenings there was no entertainment as advertised in fact a couple of evenings Lamar sorted it out.Activities were advertised even when Travis was day off either have some one fill in for him or don't print activities that will never happen. The Carlyle is small and very quiet which lacks the facilities the sister resorts have but makes up with its impeccable service, friendliness and intimacy that the other two can't compete with. If you want grand entrances, marble pillars, plush surroundings and more bars and restaurants you can shake a stick at then this resort is not for you, but if you want a quiet intimate " Marigold type Hotel " then choose the Sandals Inn as you will not be disappointed. A special mention to three members of staff that stood out for us were - Mo bay Robert from the Oleander restaurant he gave us impeccable service on two separate occasions and Shane in the Cricketers Pub. At the Royal Caribbean it was Roderick the Usain Bolt of bar tenders at The Cricketer pub he was a joy to watch and chat to.....he was sooo fast !!!!! Our daughter is getting married there in Feb 2018 so we will be returning with around 20 guests which we can't wait for but in the meantime we may return in November 2017 as it was so lovely. Thank you for making our holiday so memorable.
