"Nice and relaxing, but...."
We had a great time. The service was very nice. The duck at the Baccarat and the lamb at the Crystal Room were excellent. The rooms were nice and clean. We didn't get a chance to visit the off shore island, but we did hear good things from those who did. The staff was extremely friendly. I’d like to specifically mention the following: Jason and Courtney at the volleyball court. Van at the piano bar, as well as all the piano players. Destiny at the Balmoral pool. Nelson at the SCUBA shop. However, hear comes the bad. If you go to SCUBA dive, be forewarned that if you haven't dove in 12 months, the dive shop says you'll have to pay $80 US for a skills review in the pool. That skills review lasted 5 minutes. For those of you at home doing the math, that equates to $960 US for every hour of pool time. It had been just over a year since my last dive, and that was in "black water" (zero visibility). (I am a public safety diver.) When questioned about it at the front desk, I was told it was a Sandals policy. When I emailed Sandals after returning home (I wanted a refund of the $80 US), I was told that it was a PADI policy. In addition, in the email correspondence, Sandals said that PADI says it's required after 6 months between dives. (So far Sandals has yet to provide PADI documentation to back up their statement.) I'll update this post with any response from Sandals.
"Large wedding success!"
We had 40 guests and everything went so smoothly, even when hitches happened! (Like my mom forgetting to carry down my vows). The wedding staff knew which route to take me to the beach so I wasn't seen until the entrance, they knew when to involve me (and when not to), in last minute changes with location (due to possible rain), and Ashandie was a key component to the fluidity of the guest organization as well. Reverend Hutchinson was an AMAZING speaker with a powerful message and light heartedness to keep all of the family (even those not standing) involved. We also had 3 butlers: Shaw, Cecilia, and Laron Hanna, since we sprung for the higher package for room and although they were fantastic and would bring you a drink or food anywhere you were on resort, it was very expensive to have that inclusion. And it only saved my husband and I a few minutes of back and forth. I am glad we did it for the wedding because they were so friendly and fun, and would go above and beyond for us, but I'm not sure our budget would spring for the priciest room again. However, we would DEFINITELY do another sandals resort! Fantastic!
I loved this place so much I can't wait to come back. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, all inclusive diving that is why I booked the trip. Just make sure if you are a diver to bring your cert cards AND log book or computer that has your last few dives. If not you will waste a day to do skills in a pool. If you have not dived in the past 3 months you will need to do skills in the pool. As you arrive at Sandals and you are checking in they hand you a glass of champagne, then it's all relaxing after that. Food was great, some nights a little slow but honestly it wasn't hustle and bustle and time seriously slowed down it was amazing. If hanging out by the pool or beach they have an their own private island which is beautiful for snorkeling, and relaxing. Also on the resort they have a stand set up for other activities that you would pay for like swimming with the pigs, shark diving, island tours, etc. all inclusive drinking, food, and diving--- just the best, I'll go back in a heartbeat.
"Married MAY 8,2015 ON THE PRIVATE ISLAND GAZEBO!!!!"
This was one of the best resorts ever. The rooms, staff, food...everything was spot on. Absolutely loved this place from the first minutes on the resort. Our wedding went perfect and if anything exceeded our expectations. The wedding planner, photographer..I mean everything was perfect. We have also stayed at Sandals Ochi Rios in May, 2016 and was just as spectacular! Don & Shelley Abbotsford British Columbia, Canada
"Three day stay"
My wife and I stayed for three days at this hotel. Excellent staff. Excellent service. Excellent drinks. Beautifully maintained small property. I personally didn't like the beach. Also, ocean water by the pier smelled like sewage one day. A la carte restaurants serve good food and service is excellent. We didn't have a chance to try them all. Breakfast and lunch are disappointing. Very little variety, bad quality fruit and unaccomodating hours. If you are not used to getting up at 6.30 in the morning you will miss everything. Snack bar serves mostly deep fried junk food and watery ice cream If I had to stay for any longer I would be bored out of my mind. I would give this hotel another try when I am in my 60s. I also didn't like when they left without us to the airport. We were sitting there for an hour and a half with suitcases outside - they just took off! We had to wait for the next shuttle and I was worried that we would miss our flight.
