The resort was beautiful clean and well manicured. There was some bad weather while we were there and that was a disappointment but obviously out of Sandals control. However it would have been nice to know that there were games available to borrow. We didn't figure that out until Friday night. We loved Bones, Happy Feet, and Andre from the entertainment staff. We did morning water aerobics with Andre who does the workout. Bartender Kevon always put a smile on our face. We loved the chef a gusepies being very accommodating. And sushi on the sand was great however we heard from several people talk about how much they wished it was open for lunch and I would agree I would have loved to get lunch there. Overall we found the staff to be very nice and welcoming. I do have a couple drawback that effected my rating. We were walking to dinner one night and we were stopped by a photographer. We thought he wanted to take a picture but he didn't even ask for that. He rather stopped us to try to sell us pot. I mentioned this on the loop and felt blown off and we saw the photographer several times through our stay. That was a little uncomfortable. Also they did some changing but did not announce it. They moved chocolate night to Thursday but spent all week telling people it was Friday. You had to have been lucky enough to show up for the Thursday night show to find chocolate night in the theatre. It was even still in Friday's footprints that it would be Friday night. Friday the wifi went down and no one seemed to know when it would be back. This was troubling because of trying to check into flights. One other drawback was that when we arrived our room was not ready although it was early so understandable. We were then taken to lunch and told to come back and it should be ready then. We came back around 2:45 and it was not ready. We asked to change and they said oh that's not necessary your room will be ready in 10 minutes. We waited until 3 to check in again as that is the official check in and it was still not ready. Again told it would just be a few minutes. This continued with us not being allowed to go change somewhere and being told just a few minutes until almost 4:45. At that point I am sure we only got a room because we said we wouldn't leave the desk until we spoke to a manager or had a room. We watched people arrive after us get rooms before us and that was truly frustrating.
"Love this place"
This is our 3rd visit to SSC and we really love it here. We always come in May as we celebrate our wedding anniversary out here and the staff are wonderful. They all take a lot of care of you and we feel completely relaxed here. There are 7 restaurants on site and a little patisserie that serves fresh baked treats all day. There are 3 big pools and the beach is amazing. I dive in the mornings while my bride relaxes on the beach which is included in the price. My wallet gets put away when we arrive as tipping is very much frowned upon and it stays there until we leave. The drive here can be a little long and uncomfortable but it is well worth it.
Beautiful resort. The problem we had problem was cigar smoke when we were eating dinner & also from our deck to our room could smell cigar smoke. I fell there should be a smoking area & should be away from all eating areas & sleeping areas. We had same problem last year at a different Sandals.
The resort is an hour and a half from the airport in Montego Bay by bus. It's an enjoyable ride and you'll see some interesting sites, including the memorial to Peter Tosh. The drivers we had both coming and going were very nice, playing reggae music and answering any questions. Most people kept to themselves and enjoyed the ride, some taking pictures from the large windows. With concierge level service we had a nice welcome with drinks, sandwiches and snacks accompanied by helpful information about the resort. We were then taken to our room, the comfortably furnished junior suite in the Italian Village. With a great ocean view, a fully stocked bar and patio it was no problem waiting for the luggage, which arrived in about 20 minutes. The resort itself it a tropical paradise, a large piece of property with tropical gardens and peacocks, grand plazas with pools, restaurants and bars as well as a great beach. There are 3 sections currently, the French Village which is on the end of the property, the Dutch Village and the Italian Village, which is closest to the majority of the bars, main pool and restaurants. There's plenty to do and certainly something for every taste. We enjoyed the restaurants, the only one we would not go back to when we return is Jasmines. We both ordered a beef dish, and although the taste was good the meat was quite tough. We especially enjoyed Eleanors and Bayside for dinner, Guiseppes for pizza and the Jerk Shack for lunch. The staff was amazing. Everyone we had interactions with was friendly, helpful and always smiling. A special shout out to Leon from the concierge staff, an amazing young man who went out of his way to make us feel special. One caveat...other reviewers mentioned slow service. I don't think it's slow, it's simply paced differently in the islands. It's a more relaxed lifestlye then many of us are used to, so manage your expectations and relax. I would definitely come back here again.
"Overall one of our best vacations!"
Select guests were permitted to smoke cigarettes in the pool as a supervisor stood by. A member of our party addressed it and was told they were special returning guests. The smoking was unpleasant and the status of the guests was of no concern to us. We were paying guests too. Ashley the activities director was fabulous however!
