"Ensure you get a renovated room"
Just leaving our honeymoon at sandals south coast. We started our stay in the French section in a room that was like a Howard Johnsons. I was seriously questioning all the reviews on trip advisor recommending this hotel. I am picky, but come on! So run down. We were able to get an upgrade for 3 of our nights here and let me tell you, it was an entirely different experience. We moved to the Italian section and it was a beautiful room. Even the hair dryer was updated and nicer. It's worth whatever the price is! Grounds and pools are very nice. Food much better than Iberostar Grand Bavaro (the only other all inclusive I've been to). Hubby loved the Jerk Shack and had a 2nd lunch there every day--which was kind of necessary as there are not a lot of snacks to be found. Crepes at Cafe de Paris were best dessert of the week. Chair games are intense, but you can do it. Average age had to be 60+ when we were there, but man those folks can party too!
"Great vacation, awesome team."
The trip from the Airport to Sandals SC is better on a smaller van, rather than a big bus. The big bus was a little tense around some of the corners and navigating the skinny roads over the mountain- the middle 30 mins of the trip only... None the less, the trip was 90 mins both ways almost to the min and not a big issue. Many guests book a private car and I know we would do that the next time. Our room was the Beachfront, Penthouse, Club Level, it was booked in the Dutch Village, but clearly we were in the Italian Village with a renovated, perfect room. Comfortable bed, big shower, separate toilet area. Quite room and the AC was very effective. Very nice job on the renos, very similar to the renovated room we had at Montego Bay Sandals last year. The weather was perfect all 7 days. Ladies do be prepared for rain many evenings for an hour only, right around 6pm. Bring dinner shoes that can be worn with a 1" of rain on the ground. The skies were clear all day, then it rained for an hour and then stars came right back out. The pools of which there are 3, are all very clean and warm with floats available for use. The main pool is where the music and games are, the Dutch pool is the quite pool. Our favorite spot was the Latitudes bar over the water. Great to grab a drink or 2 and sit in the hammocks while catching the breeze over the water. Dacain is a spectacular bartender, well spoken, hard working from day to night, as well as, very bright. Thank you to her for all the fabulous fun, great drinks, service and company, at Latitudes. The food was all good. Fresh and well prepared. The steak at this resort is the best we have ever had in the Caribbean. My husband and I actually had steak twice. You must have the ribeye at Neptune's if you are a steak lover. The new Sushi restaurant was excellent, crispy tuna and crispy shrimp rolls were our favorites, our waiter he was just a blast, I apologize for not recalling his name. Eleanor's was the only restaurant my husband had to wear pants at, otherwise dressy shorts were appropriate for all other restaurants. This resort does a nice job of keeping the dress code resort casual, but still classy. If you are looking for a burger for lunch try Neptune's, very good. Pizza from Giuseppe's is available for take out. Always good. The pastries in the Coco Cafe are much better than most of the desserts in the restaurants. The ocean is beautiful, there are round rafts you can float in, but do take your water shoes if you like strolling in the water past your knees. There are grassy areas in the water with fish and sea urchins, you do need to be careful of where you are walking. The sailing is great when the wind is up and kayaking is great for those quiet days. Lots to do to keep you busy in this well protected, large cove. You can walk for a good half hour down the public beach. We never saw anyone other than other resort guests. We are beach folks, so we did struggle to get chairs in the morning in the shade. Be prepared to get up at the crack of dawn to get chairs. We missed not having a butler this trip, to cover that task each day. We did have a couple massage on the beach which was out of this world. Thanks to Sandra who gave me the best Deep Tissue Massage ever. Very talented. I will say the only disappointment of the whole stay was the number of guests smoking in the non-designated smoking areas. In 2017, you would think folks would just know, most people do not want to be around 2nd hand smoke...be kind and respectful of others, its just the right thing to do. There was entertainment by the main pool most nights- a band and we never did make it to the Cabaret events. All in all a fabulous vacation, with great employees who have been there for many years and a very wonderful location with many guests returning for their 8-10th time. I am sure we will be back. Thank you again, Sandals.
"A great Valentine's Day in Jamaica."
Loved the room that we were in and the property was well kept. The food and service was excellent and we did not have to wait long when dining. Enjoyed hanging out with the play maker "Happy Feet" she has a wonderful personality and is very confident visiting with all of the visitors.
"Always a great time"
Love the Sandals South Coast Resort, this is our third time there and have never been let down. Still hate the bus trip but it is what it is. Special thanks to Tamera and Happy Feet, they really made our vacation extra special. Their smiling faces were a joy when we saw them and they were great at show time. Not sure what happened with the rest of the playmakers on this trip as we did not see many others. Hope they get that figured out before we visit again.
"Fairly decent place"
Well kept, clean and easy to get around. Clean pools, decent food, nice staff. The long drive from the airport is a killer at 90 minutes plus the time it takes to stop and have a washroom break. Unfortunately, others on the bus couldn't wait to get to the resort to have jerk chicken and that held us up even longer. Check in was speedy and efficient, as was check out. Nice beach, but we spent most of our time at the pool. Bar service not available at pool or beach.
