Great hotel at the Santa Barbara plantation. Very nice beach and swimming pool, especially for kids. The location is a bit off center so if you wanna discover the island you should rent a car. We had a great stay at the Santa Barbara Resort and if we visit Curacao again we know where to stay.
Over all excellent. We had a good time. the conference was on a high level. The hotel was the best venue they could have chosen. Only the distance was an issue. The taxi service was optimal. Even the security was strict which gave me a good feeling of safety
So this is going to be a long one... This hotel was not our first choice. But after booking we realized our first choice was not all-inclusive and did not have any restaurants on site. So we looked on travelocity and saw this beautiful (all-inclusive) resort! It was a little pricey but worth it, right' Well lucky for us we rented a car because holy crap is this place far. After you pass the front gate it's still about a 10 min. drive to the hotel. We check in with no problems and get to our room only to see its on the exact opposite end of where we'd like to be (near the beach/pool). Not their fault. We ask to move closer if possible and they're very accommodating. Great! Our second room had a huge dehumidifier, smelled like smoke and had an ungoldy amount of mosquitos/gnats. I lost track of how many we killed. Then the shower/hot water stopped working. They sent a guy over to fix it and he said we had to move to a new room... again. This wouldn't be as big a problem except we received phone calls from different people at the front desk, all with different information. Move tonight (we packed up), no move tomorrow, the room is ready, the room isn't ready, the room is one floor down, no its on the same floor... Now in-between these problems (after a subpar dining experience) we come to realize that we're not all-inclusive. The hotel offers this separately at $150 per person... per day! That is just insane to me. When we booked this place it didn't say that anywhere (or try to sell it to us) and when we checked in, it wasn't offered. So now we're stuck in a beautiful hotel that tries to charge you for every little thing ($12 to rent snorkel gear, $5 wifi per device, per day). We ended up eating off the resort... a lot. The pools we're beautiful and the lagoon was very nice. Since we went in Oct I assume it's their slow season since it was very dead and the grounds weren't being maintained imo. So if you'd like to stay at a beautiful, isolated hotel, spend an obscene amount on basic things, then by all means check this place out.
It was for me and my family an extraordinary stay!!! From the service staff to its manager, Mauricio made us feel great. Of course I recommend the hotel and hope to return soon. Thank you very much!!!
"2nd visit, still the best resort in Curacao"
Firstly let's gets the cons out of the way. 1) Need a car. Yes you need to have a car if you want to leave the resort. Part of the reason the resort is so great is its isolation and therefore highly private beach. For me that's worth having a rental but that's a personal choice. 2) Expensive shops. The stores on the resort are hilariously expensive. Another good reason to have a car as there is a couple of great supermarkets nearby (Moma, Van Tweel) 3) Loud party boats. The beach is surrounded by a cordon that boats can moor up against. If you're unlucky those boats may sometimes be full of teenagers with a stereo that plays at full blast for hours. 4) Limited gym equipment. Personal preference here, would have loved to see more equipment. Would also have been great if the gym was somehow monitored as in the time I was there I found it full of local teenagers playing with the equipment, and also found a family eating their fast food in there while sitting on the machines. Ok, now the longer list of positives!! 1) Great beach. Enjoy very calm waters and lots of fish to snorkel alongside. Stray outside the cordon and there's more natural coastline around the golf course. Wear swim shoes to avoid the urchins and you will see great sea life. 2) Lovely spa. It is very serene and complete with private deck areas for each treatment room. I had a full body massage. Bliss. 3) Boca 19. The private bar/restaurant at the far end of the beach/marina is a lovely place to spend an evening. Their goat stew is a good sample of curaçao cuisine. 4) Splash. The resort beach bar/restaurant is actually one of the best things about the resort. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful (shout out to Missy who was great fun and very quick with the drinks!) and the Fish Tacos are really really really good. 5) Smart. This is a resort that's well maintained and of a high standard. Starting to see some signs of wear on the rooms, but equally seeing a lot of behind-the-scenes work taking place across the resort to renew and refresh them. The gardens and common areas are all pristine. Overall I love it here and will come back again I'm sure.
