"not really a 5 star experience"
Location is beautiful but also very isolated and therefore exensive if you want to move around. Pool very nice and breakfast excellent. However service sometimes a bit sloppy (orders forgotten) and the general maintanance could use some more attention. Rooms spacious, but aain service sloppy with a non functioning ( and empty) minibar and llogical towel change. Terrace should be included in cleaning as well, now cups are just left there
"Most Beautiful Resort in the Caribbean "
We were only here on a day visit, but wow. Despite the unusual rain, we had a great time. So much to do. So much natural beauty. Such a thoughtful design to this resort. We loved it. This is one of the largest resorts (in total land size) I can recall visiting. Everything seems to have been done top notch. I recommend the house made plantain chips, which will blow you away if you're into such treats.
"Nicest Hotel in Curacao"
The Santa Barbara really is the nicest hotel you can stay at in Curacao, albeit a bit removed from the rest of the island. The resort's expansive grounds have plenty to keep most anyone entertained for their whole stay. I would love to give it 5 stars, but the smoking, oh the smoking just kills the place. As there is no defined distinction between inside and out, people smoke through dinner, in the lobby, by kids in strollers. If the hotel did a bit more to control this I'd live at the place as its otherwise so nice.
"Better Than 4-stars, Not Quite 5"
I was here as an exhibitor at a conference. This place is the best resort hotel/conference facility I've been to in the Caribbean. On the plus side: - room was spotless and kept that way - every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful; especially the front desk folks and the "doorman"; requests were dealt with promptly. - beds were ultra comfy; excellent pillows - room A/C worked perfectly; ceiling fan was a nice touch - Internet worked perfectly; high speed; better thane expected reliability (went down once) - almost all the food was excellent - with one exception - the property is very well maintained - lizards are amusing - the breakfast omelette is to die for; thank you for the lox, bagels and cream cheese! - Splash Restaurant - splash burger is fabulous; fish tacos got rave reviews - Pizza Place - pretty good pizza "cheap" eats, - Medi - breakfasts were great; lunches were fabulous; dinners so-so (see below); pastries and desserts could use some work (way too sweet for my taste) - the hair dryer, robes and ironing equipment were welcome amenities The things that kept me from giving a 5-star rating - shower water pressure was atrocious (a personal pet peeve) - towels could have been used as sandpaper (another pet peeve) - the "Grill Night" buffet was disappointing. Many dry items. - many tiny flies in the air at night prevented outdoor dining. Other Tips: - Rent a car at the airport to get the best rates if you intend to leave the property. The hotel will arrange a car but it will be overpriced-perhaps the hotel gets a cut. I got a car from Oost-West on my own. They came to the resort. There is another outfit that will give you a cell phone for free. Some rental companies will deliver to the resort for no extra charge. The local car rental deals are better. Purchasing gasoline is interesting. "fill it up" appeared to be a confusing concept to the fellow who was working at the station I used before returning my car. - You will need local currency to use the parking meters in Willemstad. The meters are tricky. A very friendly local helped me out. Parking rules are strictly enforced. - If you like to snack, bring your own or buy things off the resort. A can of mixed nuts from the on-site snack shop was US$19. Same insane prices for other things like sunscreen and Pringles :-). - Beware the 16% service charge baked into everything you buy - including the room. - No need to buy bottled water. The resort water is just fine. - Bring a couple of adaptors if your electronics have North American plugs. There are plenty of outlets in the room but only 2 in my room were 3-prong.
"Relaxing, Beautiful, friendly staff!"
Beautiful resort - very peaceful, quiet, relaxing. Amazing spa experience! I had a great facial and spent a wonderful afternoon completely relaxing. Their products smell great - everything has aloe in it, sourced from the island. By far my favorite part of the resort was Jaymy, who suggested I try their version of the Mudslide on my second day....a perfect blend of ice cream, vodka, chocolate for the heat of the beach. Thank you, Jaymy for making my favorite drink memories ever! EAT: at the Shore restaurant (get the Italian Coffee for dessert!), fish tacos at the poolside bar, anything they have at privately catered events (all of our food was so delicious!). Drink: um, mudslides! and the "local beer" which is made in Florida.
