Close to everything but seen it's best days. To pricey breakfast, pleasant personnel. The smoke from the smokeroom reached up to 3 floor not good. Over all a tiered hotel who needs a makeover very soon.
"a stay of charm in a quiet and plesant place"
The room was large and the beds comfortable . Even if the bathroom was a bit small, the shower was good . Lovely attendance with some presents ( bottle of water and soaps) The hotel is very close to elegant Ku-Dam strasse and Zoologisher Park ( S-Bahn) very quick to reach Mitte and famous places to visit . THe people who work there are very nice, ready to help . Plenty of shops in the surroudings . The hotel is in a very quiet street . I recommend this place . It is elegant, charming but needs some refreshing in the rugs on the floor . A bit oldish style .
"Excellent location and staff"
Recently stayed for two nights and was delighted, the room was clean and quiet, the staff were friendly , the location was perfect for visiting tourist sights as very close to transport links, The cigar room (bar) is a must to visit, it is small with 2 excellent bar men who were friendly and knowledgeable, my husband bought several cigars and was always offered what he wanted at reasonable price, the bar men ensured everyone had drinks when required and even cut cigars and provided complimentay matches, they are an asset to this lovely hotel, well worth a visit and definately good value for money.
"Great value although location may not suit everyone"
Nice hotel with amazingly friendly and helpful reception staff - the gentleman there (sorry we forgot to get his name!) was so helpful it completely changed our experience!. Rooms are old fashioned but very spacious. TVs are old and too small but we weren't there to spend much time in our room). None of the bedrooms have air conditioning and get a bit stuffy so on the first night we had to leave the window open on a noisy road, but from day two we just turned the heating off and the high ceilings/style of building kept it cool enough. That said, for a non-smoking hotel, it's very strange that they have a cigar lounge downstairs and, despite it being self-enclosed, the odour certainly made it to the second floor communal areas, but thankfully not the rooms. The pillows are terrible but that's par for the course in many European hotels and, on request, better pillows were provided. Only disappointment was the €5 charge for room service. We weren't told about it on the first day so we were rather surprised on the second day, when ordering a pot of coffee, to be told we must pay €5 cash for room service. On speaking with reception they clarified that it could be added to the bill, but by then we'd decided it wasn't worth it. We decided to stay there as I'd had many stays in the soulless Alexanderplatz area. It's right next to the Tiergarten, zoo and KaDeWe (amazing food hall on the top floor!) and other good shops... but lots of time spent going to Alexanderplatz for tours so may not suit everyone - easy biking to most main sites though and easy walk to others.
My stay was very pleasant: a cosy room, nice staff, and a very good breakfast. The situation is excellent especially for opera enthusiasts as both Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper are at a walking distance.
