"Great hospitality and location"
Although we had to take cabs to/from the airports (as far I can tell, there is no train access to the airports), this hotel has a great location! Just across the huge grassy open area adjacent to the hotel is a large mall with lots of shops and eateries, and there was also an outdoor ice rink and winter market when we were visiting (in late November). Many high-profile attractions are also within easy walking distance, including the Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, and Brandenburg Gate. There is also an Underground station (actually located above ground in this case) just around the corner from the hotel, which provides convenient access to areas throughout the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were not going to drink any of the alcohol in the (free) mini-bar, so we asked if was possible to replace those drinks with ones we would drink (coke zero). Although it was a very odd request, the staff brought up replacement drinks within minutes! The room itself was comfortable, although there was a strange opaque window between the shower wall and the bedroom portion of the room. Nothing was visible, just extra light. All the facilities were great, though. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.
It was money well spent. The rooms were very nice, clean and inviting. Bedding well appointed. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The front desk took the trouble to find out which language we were conversant in, which I thought was a real plus point
Scandic Hotel, built along the foundation where the original Wall stood, offers a unique experience with its witty and quirky interiors and admirable green philosophy. Conveniently situated in Potsdamer Platz, the Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, as well as the glitzy Sony Centre with its cinemas, bars and resturants, are all within walking distance. The resturant and bar at the Scandic is well worth a visit, meals are inexpensive and fresh, cocktails imaginative, and the breakfasts are outstanding with a huge selection of scrumptious breads, preserves, fresh fruit, a mulititude of cheeses, as well as eggs any which way you like them, crispy bacon, delicious poached salmon, as well all the trimmings that make breakfast my favourite meal of the day. Beds are comfy but firm. Furniture features clean blond Scandinavian lines. A walk to your room sets off the sounds of the forrest, running water, swishing leaves and the woeful moo of the lone moose. Great fun feature. Staff are young and friendly and helpful. It's my home from home in Berlin during the Berlin Film Festival. Highly recommended.
"Seems to have slipped"
I stayed here a year ago and commented that it was like staying in an IKEA store. It is still that way and I enjoyed many things about it but the service seems to have slipped. It is always the small things that add up but I found the front desk staff to not be the most helpful, the laundry was late returning and I could never get the heat warm enough in the room. The bathroom is designed for people with physical challenges which is OK but that resulted in the entire bathroom floor being flooded while taking a shower. The breakfasts are excellent. At least that did not change!
"Very good Hotel"
Nice Bar, friendly staff, very good breakfast, nice rooms (small shower in our room) Very good location. Good Restaurants in this area around Potsdamer Platz. If you use public transportation, you have two good options to come to the Hotel.
