"Fantastic hotel with best views of Zermatt and the Matterhorn."
My wife and I stayed at Chalet Hotel Schoenegg for 10 nights on an Inghams package holiday. On our arrival at the hotel we were warmly greeted by the receptionist and shown to our room. We were immediately impressed by the cleanliness and decor of the large Matterhorn facing room. The was ample storage space and the bathroom was large and beautifully laid out. All the food in the hotel was very good. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, from cooked food to muesli, fruit, yogurt, cold meats and cheeses. For evening meal, our package deal gave us a 4 course set meal, which changed each evening and wasn’t repeated during our 10 day stay. As part of the deal we also received coffee and cake at around 4pm, which was warmly accepted after walking hours in the surrounding mountains. All of the cakes were fantastic, but top marks must go to a fabulous black cherry cheese cake. All of the staff members in the hotel were friendly, cheerful and efficient and would go out of their way to help. Our chambermaid obviously had a sense of humour. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary when we were there and gave each other cards on the day. When we returned, our duvets were shaped into hearts!! The hotel sits above Zermatt and has fantastic views of the Matterhorn, but the village is easily accessible by a lift then a 100m tunnel. This means walking time from your room to Sunnegga funicular is approximately 5 minutes, and to the main station and Gornergrat station is around 10. There is also a bus stop near the tunnel entrance that takes you to the Matterhorn Paradise cable car at the other end of Zermatt. We absolutely loved our 10 days here, so with possibly the best views in Zermatt, beautiful rooms and fantastic staff, when we return to Zermatt we will definitely stay here.
"Most Incredible Views"
Zermatt is by far the most beautiful city I've ever been to in the entire world! Hotel Schoenegg matches this description perfectly... it's nestled in the center of town, with beautiful flower covered balconies that overlook the Matterhorn. You enter the hotel by going into a narrow cave into the mountain, then up one of two elevators... which definitely was the coolest part! The staff is phenomenal, only outshines by the breathtaking views. The Spa is perfection, with a window that perfectly frames the Matterhorn as you sit in one of the two jacuzzis. Rooms are quaint and beautiful with exquisite wood work. There is also a great bar with a fantastic selection of grapa. If you are lucky enough to travel to Zermatt, I highly recommend this hotel!
"Excellent stay at Zermat."
I really enjoyed to stay this hotel. Especially the room was so comfortable and have a special view of Matterhorn ! Also the breakfast was excellent. Actually this hotel's breakfast is the best one during my stay at Switzerland.
"Great Hotel, with great views"
Stayed at the Chalet Hotel Schoenberg for three nights. We had a lovely room with view of the Matterhorn. The Staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and Dinner were very good. We enjoyed are stay, would stay there again if we returned to Zermatt.
The entrance to the hotel gives a hint to something special and indeed this is the case. If you have watched John Le Carré's 'The Night Manager' on TV/DVD, you will see that the restaurant is featured in the first episode. It has a wonderful view of the Matterhorn and the famous Hörnli ridge as indeed do the bedrooms too. The Petit Chalet Schönegg where we stayed is a wonderful addition to the main hotel. The food is superb and the hotel staff combine welcome informality, careful attention and good cheer. On our next return to Zermatt, we would return to this hotel and no other.
