"Couples ideal spot"
Couples ideal spot. Great location and gorgeous views. Worth paying the extra money for view of the Matterhorn. Loved the service and free breakfast. Easy entry and great kitchen. Room was very comfortable
"would happily recommend."
This was a great place to stay and we would come back if we return to Zermatt. Our only comment is that at times, the music went a bit late. Everything else was excellent - room view, staff, location, breakfast, size of room, cleanliness.
"Stay at Hotel Schoenegg"
We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Schoenegg while staying in Zermatt. The staff was friendly, the room was small but clean and comfortable. The spa was very nice and relaxing, a great resource to have after a long and tiring day of skiing. We would definitely stay again!
"Perfection, except the bed"
We recently had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland, while there we spent 4 days and 3 nights in Zermatt and the Chalet Hotel Schonegg. If you are looking for a place to stay while skiing in Zermatt this is the best location and if not the best hotel, very close to the best. Location: You can literally walk across the street and into the ski rental facility, walk across the street to the funicular and ski. All the resorts in Zermatt are now combined, you can ski the Italian side and the Switzerland side of the Matterhorn for one price, and you can get to any of the resorts from this hotel. Perfect. The breakfast buffet was included in our price, and we found it to be very nice. I would not say it was the best, but it was good enough for us, and we are very picky. The room was very nice. We did not pay for a room with the view of the Matterhorn, but it was roomy enough, not like American rooms, but very close. The bathroom was nice, and was large for EU. We wanted a bed for two people, so like many places in Europe, they push together two twin beds. However, usually the make the bed up like a king, using a king fitted sheet. In this hotel, the use two twin fitted sheets and honestly don't really even try to make it into one bed. The even used two twin comforters. I felt like I was back in college. The bed was okay, but not nearly comfortable enough. With that being said, I don't think beds anywhere in Europe are comfortable. They must like sleeping on boards, because I couldn't find many places with comfortable beds. The Spa: The spa was very nice. We used it every day. Strangely, it does not open until 3:00 PM, but it was very nice. We had a massage, and it was very good. Arrival/Departure: When you arrive, call the hotel about 15-30 minuets before, or make a prearranged time, they will meet you at the train station and pick you up. It's only a 10 minute walk, but why walk with all your luggage when they will pick you up for free. Plus, they know exactly where to go. To access the hotel, you have to enter into a tunnel, not unusual in this area, but very cool. I think it's about 200 feet long. At the end of the tunnel, you take an elevator up to the hotel. This hotel is built on the mountain, and this is the easiest way to enter. Fun and exciting. Over all, we loved this hotel. I wish the beds were better, but even so, I would return. It's honestly the best location around.
"Family Ski Trip February 2017"
Anna and Sebastian Metry have created one of the most enjoyable experiences in Zermatt. Each year, my family and I spend the first week of February skiing for our annual family vacation. This was our second time back to Zermatt. From the start, the Schönegg staff was exceedingly accommodating, going out of their way to make sure we had a great vacation. The serving staff is extremely attentive and happy to accommodate our individual food preferences. Anna and Sebastian (owners) are extremely welcoming as well and are great people to talk to. They are happy to share their experiences of Zermatt and give recommendations of things to do and places to see. The views from the hotel are simply amazing. Travelers have the option to book Matterhorn facing rooms (with balconies) if they so choose. The non-Matterhorn facing rooms have great views of the town as well. The rooms themselves are clean and have all the amenities needed. We stayed in the Charme rooms which had updated bathrooms and wooden floors in the rest of the room, accompanied with traditional Swiss wooden flare. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient. Less than 100 yards away is the Sunnegga lift, two ski rental shops, and a bus stop which can bring you over to the gondola on the other side of town. This made everything so much easier, not having to trek across town with ski gear/in boots. The location makes walking to town an easy task, sitting roughly 2 minutes distance from all the shops and main street. Overall, as a family, we have already decided that our next trip will have us staying at Schönegg again. We loved our stay and look forward to the next one!
