Stunning hotel. When we arrived our room wasn't ready as check in is 3pm so we went up to the sky bar! Wow! Even with the drizzle outside the view was fantastic. We had a couple of drinks while we waited then went to check in our room was on 44th floor so again great view over London. The room was supposed to be a corner suite but we were in the middle so not the big bathroom window we were expecting. However the room was comfortable and luxurious. Bathroom was lovely with great toiletries plenty fluffy towels and nice robes. The breakfast was included with the package with gas and it was lovely. Everything you could want and need in a breakfast buffet with your choice from the menu too. We ate in the hotel on Saturday lunch time the bar/restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere there was a lady playing the piano and a magician going around the tables. The spa/pool is also up int he goes with the Sky bar so I would imagine the view from the pool is also stunning however we didn't have time to go in.
"Wonderful staff. Over priced not so wonderful food"
The hotel itself is beautiful, with of course stunning views. The staff are helpful, polite and hospitable. The food was not very impressive unless it was a chinese dish. It is also, even for a five star hotel, extremely expensive , especially as the portions were small. Room service food was cold and orders were wrong on two occasions. And a pet hate for me in restaurants and hotels is the fact they serve Fois Gras and the cold plates which every meal was served on. Dining at the Shangri la was overall a disappointment
"Stay with family"
Wasn't really expecting much from this hotel despite it being a Shangri-La. Seemed like it was a lot of gimmicks and views to it. However, was genuinely happy about the good service, the design of the rooms are smart. Lots of hooks and places to put coats, the amenities are on point and good to use. Breakfast at Ting was great, and drinks at Gong were also decent, but more about the view. The only thing is it is a little weird when you see someone else in their room, but otherwise really enjoyed my stay.
"How unhelpful can you be '"
I think it is a case of total mis communication. I entered The Shangri La with a view to take a friend , who's Birthday it was , up to the Bar on the 53rd Floor. On the Ground Floor I showed my Camera and was told to proceed to the Lift to the Gong Bar. Once at the Top , I asked again and was told that I could not take any Images out the Windows and I clearly stated that no Persons would have their Faces in any Shots for obvious Legal Reasons. I was refused and told to leave. I then went down to the Reception and met a very unhelpful Guy. Instead of taking me to somewhere a bit Private to explain their so called Policy , he proceeded to slang me off in Public even in front of my friend. This is highly unprofessional and I think this Guy needed to go back to Training Programme. A few weeks ago I took some friends with a 2 year old to The Shard. We got to The Gong Bar to be told that we are not allowed in because of the 2 year old Girl. What would happen if a Family were to stay in the Hotel with a Child and get told that they cannot use the Gong Bar ' For Heavens sake , put Signs up as we are not mind readers. Also I observed at The Gong Bar , Tables were so packed tightly together that a Wheelchair bound Person would have problems accessing the Gong Bar . I was happy when we went to The Sky Gardens on the 37th Floor, got an excellent view and had the comfort of strict searching , Airport Style , which lacks in The Shard. Anybody could bring a Case in and it would only be picked up by CCTV . Why not have a Bag Security Check on the Ground Floor like in the Sky Gardens '''
"21st Birthday stay."
This was by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in! My girlfriend surprised me by taking me here for a night for my birthday and I was not disappointed. Nothing beat the views from this room, and they placed 2 seats in front of the windows to have unrestricted views. The bed was huge and had a nice desk and TV in the room. The bathroom and shower was amazing, there is a TV within the mirror and the toilet seat is heated. Honestly the main reason to stay at this hotel was the views, i personally didn't pay but if I had I could confirm that it was worth every single penny.
