"5 Star and it is."
We decided to cut short our stay in Pattaya and 'spoil' ourselves with 2 nights in this hotel. It was certainly the 'icing on the cake'. The location on the river offers fantastic views and very relaxing from the hussle and bussle of Bangkok. That said the road journey to the hotel is a pain. Security is good with all luggage being x-rayed before it is allowed into the hotel. The reception is professional very attentive and helpful. The room, beautifully decorated; very clean and tidy. Its exactly what I expected for a hotel of its star rating. The pool we all enjoyed. The mattresses for the sun beds were as good as bed mattresses in any 3 star hotel. Different towels were given one for lying on, one for drying yourself. Free bottled water and fresh fruit was waited to you. Two lifeguards always on duty. We only ate breakfast at this hotel. Showed to your table, enough food to cater for all styles and tastes, clean, tidy, attentive staff what more can one ask for. We now intend to stay for 2 nights at the start and end our Far Eastern holidays. Go, stay and enjoy fantastic service and excellent attentive employee's. A hearty well done to all.
Words can't describe my 1 night stay at this amazing hotel. The staff can't help enough. It's extremely clean. It's relaxing. It's safe. it's a great location and it's also the best buffet breakfast that I have ever had. I can't find any fault with this hotel at all. Yes you do pay more than some of the other hotels in Bangkok... it's totally worth it. Luxury at its best!
"Thank you for making Bangkok enjoyable"
I would like to take a moment out of this crazy travel schedule to thank the wonderful customer service at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. Normally I come to Bangkok twice a year and have never seen it as my favorite place to come too. The staff and housekeeping were absolutely wonderful. Even after a very long night flight to the city and a really bad airline experience the staff at shangri-la were kind enough to give me an early check in to allow me a few hours of sleep before my conference. This will definitely be my hotel every time I come back to Bangkok. The location is wonderful with great restraunts near by and a wonderful massage place across the street.
centrally located, not too far from the skytrain. Good selection of restaurants and friendly staff. The hotel has a nice decor and breakfast selection is fabulous. The only drawback is the room rate is pricy.
"Great River Views"
The Shangri-La is an established older hotel in Bangkok. Taxi from the airport is about 400-450 Baht including tolls. The hotel has security at the front entrance of the Shangri-La Wing. The lobby is very lavish and opens on to their Chocolate Café. A number of locals use this area for the High tea. I felt quite under dressed as an Aussie tourist. Anyway back to check in. It was quick and efficient. we were offered an upgrade to a corner room for 400 Baht a night. We took it even though we had already booked a River View rom. The Room: Our room was on the 6th floor and the views were amazing up and down the river. Nice size. Usual hotel amenities. Free toothpaste was nice touch. Plenty of complimentary water. Rooms are looking a little worn and on entering the bathroom to use the toilet we noticed that it had not been cleaned very well as there was a spot of blood on the toilet seat. Yuck... However, this was the only obvious "dirt" we could see. Bed was comfortable as were the pillows. did not notice the aircon. Plenty of other seating also. After settling we had a latte and a cake, yum, at the chocolate café, which was superb. It was relaxing sitting and listening to thier harpist play beautifully whilst we indulged. We then caught their free ferry down the river to Asiatique. The hotel is only a short walk (through the hotel on level 3) to the train station. There are lots of shops around the hotel but the only department store near the hotel is Robinsons and an Outlet Centre. There is also an a small evening market at the back of the hotel. We ate at the Italian restaurant, Volte, and the pasta was excellent as was the service. Speaking of service, the staff were always incredibly helpful but I found (possibly due to our basic and glamourless looks) that they always approached us on return from outing with a hint of suspicion in their greetings of 'can I help you'. Despite this they were lovely. The gym has good facilities. It is used by a number of locals. The staff in the gym are not very friendly. The pool has enough day beds a good sized area and the staff there are friendly and smiley. It must be the outdoor job :-).The buffet breakfast had a lot of options and the dining room was always busy, mostly with Asian diners. Staff were generally attentive and tried hard to clear tables quickly. It was nice to be left with a small pot of coffee rather than having to ask for refills. On our final day we had the high tea. It was nice but it is evident they pre prepare the savoury part as a few nibbles were soggy and had that refrigerated taste when eaten. The chocolate and dessert offerings were in my partners words 'exquisite'. It also looked exquisite. This is a beautiful hotel, with comfortable beds, a lovely pool, good gym, great breakfasts and Italian food, close to transport, and staff that are lovely. The few things I have mentioned previously stop me from giving it 5 stars.
