"Very good but mixed feelings"
Location is outstanding with beautiful views of the river. Very central, close to major attractions but... there is not much to do within a walking distance. (Taxis are cheap though) Hotel is a massive resort which makes it lack some charm. Staff is very nice polite, helpful. Hotel could use a makeover, even though its great as is, you just feel it wasn't built yesterday. Food is good but overpriced. Overall a very good choice in that city, as I am sure other hotels have same shortcomings: a lot of tourists everywhere in Bangkok. PS:mattress are very very hard
"Heaven at Shangri-La"
This hotel is beautiful, the staff are extremely kind, caring and helpful. The rooms are lovely and spacious, the food was very good. We loved taking the boat taxi to the night market. It was a complimentary service provided by the hotel.
"The best of hotel Bangkok"
Puen is Guest relations who check in very quick by the room check in and warm welcoming. Room is nice with very modern bathroom in balcony room and spotlessly clean throughout. Perfect location for walking to all tourist destinations by the river. Helpful and friendly staff. Will visit again.
"Decline in standards '"
Just returned from yet another stay at the Shangri -La Bangkok , Krung Thep Wing . We have , in the past LOVED this hotel , and going back was like going ' home ' . Unfortunately , after this stay , our feelings gave changed . On arrival , warmly met & shown to our room , as always a nice standard , oldey worldey , but that's part of the charm . We had an issue with the room , which was dealt with swiftly . The situation , however , was not followed up , until we pressed for it to be so . It was a fairly major problem and very unpleasant ! Our main criticism though , the afternoon tea ( one of the KRUNG THEP benefits ) , thus is usually something quite special . On our stay , every day for a week , we had the exact same 4 cakes & the same 2 sandwiches served alternate days . Little drops in standards , like no towels with the evening cocktails/canapés , small things I know , but it all adds up . At one time , attention to detail was paramount at Shangri La Bangkok , now it's different , we received no turn down one evening , when I called to mention it ' You must of kept DND on door ' ... We hadn't ! In the past, immediate apologies would of been given & the room prepared instantly , this time , not even the offer of fresh towels . The evening cocktail / canapé session is still excellent & the staff in the Riverside Lounge , do their utmost to ensure you have a lovely time , especially Oui & Ammy ! It's a great shame poor Mr Henry has left , a true gentleman . Pool side service is still excellent ,the pool guys look after you very well . The management in the hotel change on a regular basis , there are some familiar faces still , who when I mentioned about getting the identical tea over a few days , acted surprised ( even though , friends who also have stayed there a lot encountered the same thing 2 weeks previously had also complained , as well as other people we spoke to there ) Thus is a lovely hotel in a great location , but for the money ' There's plenty of choice in Banngkok . I'm not certain we all return , which is a shame as its always been rather special.
stayed here one night before flying home, we upgraded for an extra £20 each and definitely was worth it - breakfast, lunch and dinner both days, 2 hours free alcohol and access to club items, rooms were beautiful and so was the view, 15 mins walk to the nearest train station
