"Worse experience ever!"
We had a worse experience in my life during the check out. While we were doing the billing, we asked for split the payment by cash and credit since we were leaving this country and most of the people would like to spend all the cash before they leave. The staff (Miss Tong) rejected and showed us with an annoying face and tried to force us to settle the bill by credit card only. This is a five stars hotel and she pissed me off. Later on, when she gave us back for the changes, she used one hand and throw the money to the table. This is a very impolite way to treat a guest and her action was like looking down to us. I was surprised that this was how the way they treat the guest when they check out. She did not say sorry to us and feel any apologise. We will never stay with this hotel anymore.
"Wonderful service and hospitality "
The staff in this hotel provide exceptional service. They were warm and friendly yet unobtrusive and their command of English was excellent. In particular the hotel concierge and the restaurant wait staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The room was a little dated in terms of decor but was spacious. I was staying with a 1 year old and had emailed the hotel ahead of my check in to inform them. The hotel graciously provided me with a cot, baby bath amenities and a bottle sterilizer. Small matter that their email had listed slightly different baby bath amenities than what was actually provided in the end but fortunately I had brought everything I needed. A note about the breakfast buffet - while it certainly did not lack variety, the array of food lacked a certain theme - often I could not tell if it was continental or Asian and it was hard to guess which were meant to be appetizers or mains -- I guess "fusion" would describe it best. Perhaps more thought could be dedicated to curating the types of dishes and the food stations to a more professional level. I had left some baby's items behind in my hotel room and had written to the hotel to retrieve them. Sadly, my items could not be found, but housekeeping miraculously found my nail file and other items which must have belonged to previous occupants of the room (some of these items looked really old so one wonders when a thorough cleaning of the rooms are done). However, no further attempts were granted to search for my baby's items with the linen dept even though I had pictures of the items last seen on the bed with the sheets on the morning of our departure. The staff also did not offer to return my nail file even though I had identified it as mine (I suppose since my email was only about the baby items), though it would have been a nice touch to do so. Nonetheless, the overall experience was great due to the hospitality of the staff. Perhaps email communication could be improved to match the level of service provided by the staff in person.

Hotel staff were well trained. Provided excellent support for events and ad-hoc requested. Environment of the hotel was pleasant and comfortable to stay in.. Overall an excellent experience for this trip..
"Special welcome for our honeymoon"
My husband and I have nothing but great things to say about our stay at the Shangri La! We were warmly welcomed by all staff. Our room was beautifully decorated for our honeymoon including a nice note by staff members and a bottle of wine. Breakfast has both western and Asian options. Well executed. Concierge was very helpful with booking tours and restaurant (we did the elephant nature park and davids kitchen... see other reviews). Tones of seat poolside. Price of food/drink are average western standards. The hotel thinks of the little details. For example, free bug spray and water in the complimentary pool kit and, cool towels and welcome drink when you check in). For those worried about Zika, honestly I haven't seen one mosquito since I've been here and I'm on high alert.
"A true touch of luxury"
The Shangri-La was a true getaway! Everything about our stay was a treat, from the early check in to the complimentary water and watermelon poolside. The pamper at the spa was the best ever experienced! If you are looking for an escape this is the place to go!
