"A good hotel in the city centre"
Central hotel with excellent staff who are both friendly and very helpful. The public areas are beautiful and make an impressive impression on arrival. Staff at check in were quick and efficient. We had a fairly basic room on the eighth floor at the back of the hotel which was still very comfortable and looked good although like most hotel rooms after a few years it had its share of little knocks. Everything in the room worked well and the place was kept beautifully clean while we were there. The bathroom was good but there was little space to spread out toiletries. The hotel was undergoing remodelling of the main breakfast restaurant so other hotel restaurants were being used and this made them very busy, especially at peak times, and quite loud however the quality and diversity of food at breakfast was very good. Overall this was a very good hotel but it is very busy and can at times feel fairly impersonal. It is located between two monorail stations so transport links are OK but there are hotels with better links this is especially important when it rains.
While this hotel is central located it is really lacking. The hotel is on the older side and not what you would expect from the new Shangri-La hotels. The hotel has an amazing bar / lounge with great bar snacks.
"A classic still delivering "
Long time since I've stayed by here and chose for the location and my membership. It's been here a long time and not sure if it is one of the originals so was nervous re the fit out and maintenance. The good thing about seasoned hotels like this is the staff know what they are doing and have probably been there a long time. Service is good. I don't know who choose the hotel floor decor but its never my cup of tea sort of Asian Aunty classic or its simply dated. That would be my gripe it needs a modern uplift nothing too trendy but a refresh. The food choices for me were a bit limited but I stumbled on Arthur's bar and grill which was great but not well sign posted or would have gone there sooner, it's tucked away at the end of the lobby. Nice clubby bar feel quiet good service. Needs to be advertised better. I had a good sized room bay window nice light and quiet. I know there are newer and probably more glitzy hotels but this still delivers Ill be back.
"Something lacking "
I guess the strength of the shangri-la brand is both a positive and a negative. You book expecting luxury and something a bit special. If not you would have booked somewhere else. And I just didn't feel like that in this hotel and if I am honest I am not 100% sure why' It might be that the building is older and getting a bit jaded round the edges. It might be that it has the feel of a large conference style hotel. So you kind of lose the feeling of specialness and intimacy. Don't get me wrong. The location is great. It's a five minute walk to the twin towers ( although I don't think this hotel will have a direct view ). The food is good and service as great as you would expect it to be. But I left feeling that I wished I had gone elsewhere.
"A decent hotel in KL but accessibility and extra services need improvement"
No complaint with the room nor the breakfast. It looks a bit on the old side but it is clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Just very big room so you have to walk a lot to get your juices. And because you do not want to leave your stuff by the time you come back to your table all has been cleaned. The food from the room service (pizza) was really bad. There are not many restaurants in the area. Only big malls centers and with the rain you have to take a cab to go elsewhere. So ended up eating a lot there. But this definitely needs an improvement. The massage center was always busy when I was trying to book and then my massage was cancelled because of work repairs noise in the hotel. The blue taxis available at the hotel are more expensive than others. Also it takes a solid 5 minutes to leave the hotel as the cars have to go down a roads that is super busy on the lateral side and don't get the chance to go. Meanwhile the taxi meters is running. The email processing to book the limousine car pick up from airport was appalling. They took more than 24 hours to answer, by the time they finally got back to me I was on the plane and it was to tell me that it has not been booked as they needed my credit card number.. So had to look for a taxi on arrival which was way cheaper than what they offered (80 ringgits instead of 300)So bad for them but good for me!
