"Excellent location. Staff first class."
Superb luxury property. In the heart of New Delhi. Great location. Phenomenal selection of restaurants. These are pricey but superb food. Staff throughout hotel ... all departments...are amazing. Balkishan in Housekeeping was a delight. Front desk staff all terrific. Lovely door man. Good security all the way. We LOVED this hotel.
"Horrendous personal experience.... "
I had a terrible stay at this hotel, so bad in fact that I left after only 8 hours. I used to live Shangri-La hotels but their properties and service vary so greatly. It started with the first room which was newly renovated - well parts of it were - the phones and electrics had not been updated and were so old and dirty I didn't really want to touch. The hotel is under renovation and the drilling and hammering was terrible I asked to move. The second room was an upgrade in size but had not been renovated since the 80's I'm guessing. I personally have issues booking a 5 star hotel which is old and not a luxurious experience. There was an odd smell in both rooms so had to light a candle. Throughout the process the service from the hotel was extremely slow - or not at all. Twice I was promised someone would call or come to my room and I waited 20 mins and an hour the second time and had to keep chasing. They promised to resolve an issue then I call back and they have forgotten what we agreed. I couldn't stay at the hotel any longer as it was just a frustrating experience so I checked out 8 hours later. One positive experience were the managers who helped me on check out. They were extremely apologetic and tried to resolve the issue but I just couldn't stay in that hotel. They kindly waived the lunch I had the hotel and organized a car to my new hotel. Shangri-La brand please build more consistency in your hotel standards!! HK Island, Vancouver and London were wonderful!
The hotel is immaculate. The service is outstanding, as are the on-site amenities (spa, gym, restaurants, etc.) The hotel is located in an excellent part of Delhi and is walking distance from several sites and nice restaurants.
Very nice hotel. Great and attentive staff. Very nice food at Tamra restaurant. Lovely ambience. Bharat and Ashurosh made our dinner at Tamra very special, thank you. Very good customer service. Kamila and Greg
"Several positives after a rocky start."
This was our first port of call during our trip to India. We arrived early in the morning and had advised the hotel that this would be the case in advance. On arrival at around 530 am we were told that our room was ready but if we wanted to check in we would have to pay a full extra day rate, having made a few comments we were offered a half day rate, but told we would need to wait until 6am to qualify for this. Despite me pointing out how ridiculous this was I was directed to the (closed) coffee lounge and told to come back at 6am. Once checked in (at 6.00 am, having payed additional half day rate) we were shown to our room which was looking as tired as I was at this stage, certainly not what I was expecting from a Shangri La property. Yes the bed was comfortable and the bathroom functional, but a lick of paint and some new furniture wouldn't go amiss. Beyond this poor opening things were generally pretty good, breakfast options were impressive, diverse and well cooked. We ate in two of the restaurants where the food was of a high quality and service levels were good (though pricey). Additionally the location of the hotel was in a very pleasant area with good links. My additional comment would be that in comparison to the majority of places we stayed in India, the genuine warmth of the people/staff had somehow been trained out of them, a too highly businesslike attitude was adopted by many, which is a shame.
