Our last visit to Shangri-La was wonderful from start to finish, we received an upgraded suite and were treated like royalty. This time we didn't expect another upgrade, but the room we were allocated was far from perfect. There were renovations going on, which is acceptable - but not if I've spent a lot on a luxury room with a view of the swimming pool and received a standard room with a view over rooftops. The charge for breakfast was taken off the bill as a result - but all in all I'll probably look for a different luxury hotel next time I'm in Singapore, it wasn't a great experience
This was the second part to our honeymoon. The hotel was beautiful very attractive and location was a five minute walk to the orchard Road which is the main street, and lots of shopping and places to eat. We visited in September 2015, the weather was very hot but very very humid which did get unbearable at times. The hotel was a little dated which was a shame, we had breakfast included which had a lot of variety. We stay for three nights which was enough as we explored all the main things to do. Some of things we definitely recommend doing are: Night safari- The world's first nocturnal zoo, different and worth seeing Gardens by the bay - nature park beautiful and best to go in the evening as it's more live with shows Orchid Gardens- beautiful, really big so only if you love orchids Universal Studios - awesome but yes like any other Merlion - one of those things you have to see As for transport the trains were the easiest, cheap and definitely more advanced compared to the London underground system. Theres lots of little tours/ packages you can buy whilst out there which take you to random sites. One we did took us to little India, China Town and a Temple. People are very pleasant, there's alot of halal food available just need to be cautious lots of pork served so there can be a risk of cross contamination which is why most places cannot be specifically certified as halal.
"Luxury with relaxed ambience"
Fabulous! Attentive and friendly staff who are SO a professional. We had a glorious stay in the Valley Wing where we had a wonderful suite on the 11th floor (1156). Beautiful view of the lush gardens and pool. Can't recommend this hotel enough, will definitely be returning to this oasis in bustling Singapore. Small touches make all the difference and this hotel has that in spades! A short walk to Orchard Road or get the shuttle bus.
"An exceptional dedication to service"
Having stayed here before, I knew the hotel was very nice. If you would like to stay in lush, relaxed environs, slightly outside of the main city, this is a great place to be as a business traveller. They are building a new wing, and so I was in the 'old' part of the hotel this time, which still has many attractions, not least among them the personal balconies. The food was delicious and the room service impeccable. The most memorable part of my trip was just before I checked-out, I realised my wallet was missing. I searched all of my personal effects and the room without success. Then I called the front desk. The Shangri La team snapped into action. Within minutes, I had Michelle, Duty Manager, Gavin, Head of Security, and Yuki, member of staff in my room undertaking a drains-up search. They were impeccably professional and sympathetic. Within 15 minutes, Gavin located the wallet, which had been misplaced. They refused a tip and even said it was unnecessary to call management to convey my satisfaction. 'Just doing our job, sir' was their reply. I am so grateful to them for their professionalism and kindness. I'll be a loyal guest for years to come.
Delightful, the gardens and pool area are an oasis of calm and the staff helpful without exception. You can take the hotel shuttle to the shops or simply walk, either to the shops or train station from where it is easy to discover the city. The Flyer worth a visit, you can see the F1 Grand Prix grid from it and you can even walk this part of the circuit. The Botanical Gardens are stunning. After exploring the sights, recommend the Terrace Lounge and Italian Restaurant.
