"Large Rooms with a Great View of Sydney Harbour"
We stayed here for three nights in a n Executive Grand Harbour View Room. These rooms are large and comfortable and enjoy panoramic views of the bridge and opera house. The hotel is large and was very busy and the long waits for a lift meant I couldn't award 5 stars. It seemed only two of the six lifts were working at any one time. The breakfast buffet was very good and all the hotel staff seemed friendly and helpful. We appreciated the personal touch of a birthday cake and bowl of fruit delivered to our room for my wife's birthday. The Hotel is well located for access to the Circular Quays but it is atop quite a steep hill so only walk if you are quite fit. There is a very nice swimming pool with a very small (for the size of hotel) Jacuzzi although this was never busy when we visited. The sun deck is virtually on top of a motorway so not as relaxing as some. Overall a lovely hotel let down by the long wait for a lift.
"High Tea Service Disappointing"
Had heard great things on the High Tea however this afternoon was not great. For a 5 star rating hotel the Service is a massive step down. 1. Table set up for 9 instead of 10 people for 3pm 2. X2 Cocktails ordered arrived 10 min apart 3. Waiteress had dumped teapots on table not caring who had ordered what 4. Some of our group waited over 10mins for soft drinks whilst the other half had already received their champagne. 5. Was given warm water glass for sparkling water. Had to take back to the bar to replace. 6. Our table spent 45mins waiting for high tea food to come out whilst two tables who arrived after us received their high tea before our table. Manager I believe did apologise but then made the excuse of we were all waiting for all your party to arrive in which I did responded that I had notified the waiter we were ready which was just after 3pm. As a result the Manager offered complimentary drinks for the mix up and we were charged less per person for the High Tea. What was very disappointing about the service is that is was slow and care factor was zero. Was not even busy in the Lobby between 3-4pm, the time we were waiting for drinks and foods to arrive. If High Tea Food takes 45mins to come arrive to the table then time management needs to be looked into.
"Not a good experience from start to finish; stay elsewhere."
We stayed here as part of a pre-cruise package. The check-in process took forever as the gal we were dealing with seemed so confused by our reservation and she seemed to ask and ask fellow colleagues for assistance. When we were finally in our room it was oppressively hot and we called and requested maintenance to come up and check the AC. Three hours, two phone calls and one in-person visit to the front desk finally got a maintenance man to our room. All he did was change a filter which did no good. By that point in the afternoon we wanted to unpack and shower for our evening out so we let it go but were uncomfortable the entire night. The next morning I strongly suggested they fix the AC situation before another guest occupied that room. However, in keeping with other situations we experienced at that hotel, I doubt the matter was resolved on a timely basis. In general, the staff seemed completely unprepared to deal with any sort of conflict resolution. Worst of all, we are still dealing with a credit card charge that should not have been ours and again, the staff seems unable--or unwilling--to fix this situation. There are so many lovely hotels in Sydney, try a different one when you are there and do not stay here.
"Hotel accommodation and food"
Promised a room with a view of the Opera House. Got a view but had to walk to the end of the room to see it. At the cost of $1,300 for 3 nights it was not worth it. The buffet breakfast for 2 persons was $84. The food was of average quality. One could get much better quality food anywhere around the hotel. The lifts in the hotel were so loud that it was impossible for light sleepers to sleep at night.
"Great food - lovely views"
We stayed at this hotel at the end of our cruise, Sydney is one of my favourite cities. The views over the city from our room & the bar are just wonderful. The breakfast is well worth having, we also went to the seafood buffet which was great. The only negative was the lifts that seemed slow arriving and were always busy.
