"Comfortable stay but uninspiring design"
We stayed at Al Bandar for a week in a deluxe sea view room as a family of three. The room was spacious, with enough space for the extra bed required for our 13 yo daughter. Rooms lack storage space for clothes but are otherwise well equipped and clean. Housekeeping was excellent and we never had cause to request extra towels or toiletries as the room was always well stocked by Pappan, our room attendant. Pool service as far as provision of towels and cold water was good. However no one ever came to ask if we wanted drinks or food, so you always ended up walking to the pool bar if you needed refreshments. There is a shortage of sun beds and this meant that unless you got there in the morning, you would struggle to find a bed or a shady place. The swimming pool was very large and never felt crowded despite full occupancy. The lazy river was excellent but was the only crowded area for swimming, unsurprisingly. Breakfast was the best feature of the hotel, with a large variety of excellent fruit, pastries, cereals, breads and hot and cold food. The receptionist and the staff that served us were brilliant, remembering our beverage choices, and taking away used plates and crockery promptly. The food and drink at the pool bar and Bait al Bahr, the sunset cocktail venue, were excellent, but service could be a bit slow due to under-staffing. We ate at the Italian once but were disappointed at the chaotic service and limited menu. None of the other restaurants looked particularly inspiring and, as we had a hire car for the entire stay (which I would recommend), we ate out in town most evenings at a variety of different places. I would recommend Kargeen, Woodlands and Kesar restaurants in town - all had brilliant service and very tasty Arabian/Italian/Indian food, and were very clean. The water sports centre staff were friendly and we took a kayak one day, which was fun and safe in the calm and clean sea. We also went dolphin watching organised by the hotel with the dive centre and were delighted both by the quality of the boat and the captain who took us the, and by the fact that we saw so many Dolphins. We also had time to see Old Muscat, Quantab and the surrounding coastline from the sea, which is breathtaking. The Heritage centre behind the hotel is a waste of time. Don't bother going there! The design of the hotel is quite Spartan, bland and uninspiring. That's a shame, because the location demands a more visionary design. In summary, we had a very comfortable stay and no complaints, but would not necessarily come back to the same hotel because of the lack of ambience and style.
"An exceptional service"
Thanking for all the staff for making our stay so memorable. Room was great and nice view. Italian Restaurant was amazing, Breakfast options were good Special thanks to Mr.Naseer & Mr. Sharif for looking after every single aspect to make our Anniversary day & stay as great and ever cherishable.
We enjoyed our 12 day stay at Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa-Al Bandar. Everything worked fine (from the arrival until departure). The hotel offers a very good infrastructure. The food was excellent, the beach and pool area is very nice. All staff members take great care of the guest and they are very friendly. Last but not least there is a well equipped dive center with professionall staff.
"First Class in every respect"
A really well run and well appointed hotel. We had a very comfortable room with a balcony and sea view. The staff are very professional throughout and make you feel that their one objective is to ensure you have a wonderful stay. The food in all the restaurants we used was fresh and of the very best quality. We will definitely return.
"Earl Grey missing !!!!!"
Nature more than nurture helps this be a wonderful place. The setting is breathtaking. The hotel staff are very friendly and attentive. A great place to relax. We only experienced one problem, no Earl Grey tea.. we were disappointed that a hotel of this standard could run out of such a basic commodity, particularly when Afternoon tea is one of the highlights. My opinions was the managers response to my complaint was condescending. Next time I will bring my own tea.
