"3 flights and a speedboat but worth the travel!"
We stayed at the shangri-la in November 2016 for our honeymoon. We had to take 3 flights and a speed boat from the UK to get to the resort but it's worth the travel. We stayed in an overwater villa on our first night which was spacious and had amazing views. The remainder of the stay was supposed to be in a tree house villa which was a little disappointing as the view was not as per the hotel's website photos in our opinion, but management helped us find a villa that matched our requirements to make our stay enjoyable. It has to be noted that staff are very friendly and the resort is very well kept. The resort has a range of restaurants which offer a variety of food. Buggy service to get around the resort is also very good. We went on a dolphin cruise operated by the resort which was amazing! I was at the best expecting to see a few dolphins but we saw hundreds. I should also note that I felt unwell during the stay but hotel staff were accommodating and caring.
"Best Vacation EVER!"
I almost cannot write anything because I am having trouble finding appropriate superlatives. To write that we had an amazing time is a gross understatement. Our service was friendly and non-intrusive and our villa was exquisite. Lots to do, or easy to do nothing. My wife and I were celebrating a 50th birthday (mine) and the property exceeded our already high expectations. I guess you get what you pay for. My only complaint is that it is too far from Canada.
"An unforgettable and totally amazing experience"
We stayed at Shangri-la Villingili 8th - 13th december 2016. Although we had to take another flight from Male to Gan before our boat trip to the hotel... it was so worth it. The flight crosses over the Equater and each passanger receives a certficate stating that.. so cool. The welcome at the hotel was spectaular ..we recived flowers and coconut water. My 7 year old daughter was given a stuffed turtle with her name embroided on it... that was so special. We stayed at one of the whispering palm watervillas... the room was fully stocked with complimentary water, fruits, sweet treats...the extra large living space was beautiful. Compliments to the housekeeper ... He was always very helpful and maintained the beauty of our room every day. Thank you The snorkeling was amazing.. we could see the fish by just standing outside our villas.. I would also like to thank Praba at the kids club who made my daughters visit to the club so special. She went out of her way to make her feel welcome.Thanks again. This was a perfect start to the festive season... and we will definitley be back. well done to all .. p.s. Coral planting was also tops
"Very Nice year end holiday spent at Shangri-La Vilingilli, Maldives"
Good service, nice and very hospitality staffs. I was stay at Ocean view tree house villa, with private pool. From Male International airport, we have to fly to Gan airport. At male Airport we were greeted by Shangri-La staff,escorted to the waiting lounge, while he made check in for us (we fly with Air Maldives). We have to fly about 70 minutes from Male to Gan domestic airport ( all domestic flight arrange by Shangri-La). At Gan airport we were also greeted by Shangri-La team, and take by jeti to the resort. Good quality of service, for us, who was the first time went to Maldives. And the resort ,very amazing,the property in one Island, called Vilingilli. Nice villa, hugh, very clean ,with good view to Indian Ocean. The resorts have complete water sports facilities. The breakfast with plenty of choice, all delicious . We would love to come back again, one day.
"Luxury in Paradise"
I have to say I was hesitant about returning to another Shangri-La property after the non existent customer service I received after falling and tearing my ACL at the Shangri-La Barr al Jissah in Oman. I was however blown away at the Shangri-La Villingili! From the moment I confirmed my reservation everything was cheerfully handled for me including changes in dinner reservations. They take care of every detail. My interisland flight was booked by them and when I arrived in Male I was greeted by a hotel representative who took me to the domestic terminal and got me checked in for my flight to Gan. I was then taken to a lounge with a buffet and refreshments to wait for my flight to Gan. Upon arrival in Gan I was again greeted by a hotel representative who took me to a waiting van for a short drive to the dock for our speedboat ride to the resort. On the short boat transfer we were given a cool refreshing towel and greeted at the resort with coconut water before being whisked away to our villas, where check in took place. I had booked an overwater villa which was well appointed with an outdoor shower, soaking tub, walk in closet, sitting area, covered deck and sun deck. Everyone was super friendly, I was always greeted with a warm smile and hello. Several times I was even surprised and greeted by name. Breakfast was included and had a wide variety of fresh fruits, pastries, as well Asian and Maldivian foods, pancake and egg station, and even included pork products which surprised me being in a Muslim country. There were several dining options and all that I experienced were delicious. Unfortunately due to their Festive Season special nights I did not get to order from their Dr. Ali's Arabian Gulf Room menu. They even surprised me on my birthday by presenting me with a chocolate cake. There were also other birthday surprises that I won't divulge so as to not ruin it for anyone else celebrating their birthday. Everyday my Island Host came to check if I needed anything or if there was anything I wanted to do that she could arrange for me. Honestly my villa and it's view were so beautiful there wasn't much that could entice me to leave, except some tropical drinks sitting poolside. I was given a certificate for a free future one night stay. Not sure if this was to make up for my prior bad experience in Oman. I truly appreciate the generous offer, but given the fact I don't usually return to the same place, especially given the distance, it would have been more meaningful if one of the nights I was there was a free night. The day of my departure I was picked up at my villa and after my bill was settled we took the speedboat back to Gan for the flight to Male. Again the Shangri-La representative got me checked and was told to wait until they called for my flight. The flight ended up being late and I was concerned because by the time we landed I only had about 45 minutes to make my connection. This was known when I was checked in for the flight in Gan but was not relayed to me. When I arrived in Male though an airport employee asked if I was on the Etihad flight and told me my bag would be coming out soon. Again a Shangri-La representative met me and assisted me with the connection and getting checked in. There were other passengers from a different resort had no one to assist them. Overall this was a wonderful experience, one I won't soon forget! I came home so relaxed and happy!
