"Lacks attention to detail --- both in service & rooms."
Overnighted here at the start of a 5 week trip, & on the return leg. Only reason I stayed on the return is because I had a fully non-refundable reservation. Otherwise, I would have stayed elsewhere, since the 1st stop was mediocre at best. This not a bad hotel, & it may be fine for some travelers. However, if you are spend 1/2 the nights in a year in a hotel, then you may be less pleased as we were. Both rooms reeked of cigarette smoke, even though they are designated non-smoking rooms. This hotel obviously fails to enforce its no-smoking policy. BOTH reservations were booked on the SPG website, which is often less than credible itself. Both reservations included breakfast, even though the 1st res was $20 less than the 2nd. Breakfast was provided the 1st stop, & was confirmed at check-in by the front desk clerk on the 2nd visit, but then "denied" when we entered the restaurant. Went to the front desk & encountered different personnel from the night before, who INSISTED breakfast was NOT included. Went to the room & returned with the "printed" reservation confirmation from the SPG website, which clearly listed the reservation INCLUDED breakfast AND internet, but this front desk staff would have none of it. They looked at the printed reservation as if they had never seen one before, then replied it "must be an error from SPG" & they refused to honor it. So much for being an SPG Gold member & carrying the SPG AMEX card, which are both totally useless & have zero impact at Starwood properties. Rooms on both stays were identical. Kind of a 1960's throwback feel. Even though a big deal was made at check in about "you have been upgraded" -- nonsense -- both rooms had only 1 robe & no slippers for either guest. The "free coffee" consisted of 1 single nescafe packet, no cream, & 2 white sugar packets. How impressive. Curtain draw was not functioning in the 2nd room, & if you walk barefoot on the wood floors you will immediately notice the floors are not damp-mopped daily. Also had the strangest built-in corner sofa arrangement I have ever encountered in a hotel room. The entire front wall of the room is windows, but the curtains are controlled 1/2 from the right side & 1/2 from the left side. To close the drapes on the left side you have to literally remove your shoes --- although many guests have NOT removed their shoes --- & climb ON TOP & actually walk across the sofa itself, to get to the corner drape pulls. Cannot imagine who thought up this arrangement, &/or why it has not been subsequently corrected. If CNN is important to you, it is not offered at this hotel, even though Starwood makes big, false claims about their properties being CNN partners. On the return trip the hotel bar was closed, on a Friday night, for a private party. We'll go back to the Hyatt Atakoy on our next stopovers. No more Sheraton Atakoy, which confirms the problem with Sheraton. You can never, ever be sure what you will find at a Sheraton property, until you actually walk through the front door. Product consistency is NOT a Starwood feature..
Great hotel with every amenity you may need. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Front desk had a wealth of knowledge. Rooms are clean and beautiful. Galleria mall was literally across the street with great shops. Located at the marina. Great views when walking around the hotel. 20 min cab ride to downtown to the mosques. No complaints on anything about the hotel. Would definitely stay there again.
"Quality hotel close to airport"
Quality business hotel located close to airport. Room was big and clean. There was AC which was a little bit noicy. Free and fast internet. TV with international channels. Good breakfast on the morning you can have fresh omelet. Otherwise the breakfast is arabian style. There is excellent business center on the 17th floor with all needed service. The challenge is english skills.
"Lovely hotel, pretty good location"
While this hotel isn't the closest to the historical heart of Istanbul, it is ideally situated for the traveler. It's just 20 minutes from the airport (about 27 Turkish Lira) which makes it really convenient. Getting downtown you have a couple of options - a Taxi or a ferry from the docks which are less than 5 minutes away. I reco the ferry - lots of fun! You do cross over to the Asian side first and need to catch a connecting ferry but totally worth the journey (and cheaper than a taxi but takes a bit longer). The hotel itself is exactly what you would expect from a Sheraton - big rooms, huge pool, friendly staff. I suggest grabbing dinner in the restaurant, too. The food was excellent.
Check in took 25 minutes. The staff was blaming me ad they were only 2. Room A/C was not working in the room. We had to ask for reparation 3 times and then they changed the room. The Duty Manager was head of security who he doesn't speak English and go around with 2 guards which is very unpleasant. Finally I managed to talk to someone from executive management who took care of us. On check out it took the hotel 20 minutes to bring our luggage down and there was no taxi.
