On arrival there was nobody to help with our luggage or show us to our room. The male reception staff were not very friendly and acted like they were doing you a favour helping you. We had to change rooms as the first one they gave us was overlooked by a nearby hotel and the furniture was tatty and scratched. The replacement room had no sun on the balcony which was more like a cell. The food was awful in the evenings and cold, one of the great girls at the Restaurant reception actually took my wifes soup away to heat it up. Some of the great choice on the buffet menu included and I quote: 'Fried Pigs Feet', 'Braised Oxtail', 'Octopus', 'Tagine' (with no cinnamon, just fatty lamb). Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with prawns and spinach, Grilled Vegetables, etc' Many of the bar staff need re-training in service, it was a joke. This is a maximum lower 4* and we will never stay again.
"Beautiful hotel, fantastic location"
This was our 5th stay in Tenerife but our first at La Caleta. We can't fault it. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. Ours had a bath and a shower, great to have a choice. There was a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities. The grounds were beautifully maintained full of lush tropical trees and cacti and it was lovely to listen to all the birdsong especially from the blackbirds with their yellow beaks. The pool was so clean and sparkling and there were plenty of recliners to relax in the sun and the shade. The seaside was a two minute walk but we felt there was no need to dip in the sea. We could exit the gardens to walk along the promenade to Caleta itself and round the coastline along Playa de las Americas all the way to Los Cristianos. Food was very good, excellent choice and plenty to eat. Staff were all very courteous and helpful. We came home last night to a wet and cold Wales and I wish I was still in La Caleta. We will return again.
"Kids pool closed"
We just arrived yesterday with our family and kids. A very nice hotel, however we just learned that the kids pool is closed until 27-MAR. The full period of our stay. As this was one of the sole reasons to pick this hotel and nobody prewarned us, we are hugely disappointed. We will have a discussion today with our travel agent how this is going to be resolved. In case you are staying or planning to stay with your family with small kids in the same or similar period then please be warned
"Friendly staff, amazing breakfast"
I would not say we were the typical type of guests at this hotel (for us this holiday was a real treat, we don't often get to stay at a 5 star hotel. We are a young couple in our mid-20s), and did not use all of the facilities, but had a wonderful stay. The room was superb, bathroom amazing. Can't fault it. When we were at the hotel (we had days out most days) we mainly were around the pool or at breakfast. The highlight for us was the breakfast service, so much choice and so tasty, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We did not eat at the restaurants at any other time so cannot comment on the evening meals. But the poolside cafe was good and I remember a staff member called Victoria (I think) being really friendly. We also chose not to put a deposit down when we checked in (to go on our tab for food and drinks - I think this was the norm but it was above our budget) as we knew we were not going to be eating at the hotel that much, the other option was just to Pay as you Go which we did. I was worried about whether there would be a fridge in our room as had read mixed reviews, but there was. Staff at reception were always helpful. We also had a late flight home in the evening and the staff let us use a convenience room to have a shower before we left the hotel (as we had had to check out in the morning) which was really helpful (and free). Overall we loved the hotel and would highly recommend. We are hoping to return in a few months.
"A stunningly beautiful 5 star hotel"
A stunningly beautiful 5 star hotel, my husband and I spent 2 weeks here in March, absolutely delightful. I loved our room and sunny balcony, I loved the swimming pool, I adored the hotel grounds, everything was so clean and ordered, numerous lifeguards on duty to make sure you were safe in the water, and the music by the outside bar every evening was delightful. What I liked - the security guards on duty in the evening, the hotel felt safe and secure! Best employee (but all were brilliant) was the manager of the outside bar, the ambiance was just right, so before or after your meal sit at the bar as we did and engage with the staff, no matter what language you speak you will be spoken to in that language - fluently and competently. If you want to use your Spanish as we did you will be encouraged. Best evening entertainment was the pianist playing by the outside bar on the hotel's grand piano, absolutely delightful, so talented, playing modern songs Tip, ask for a room with a sunny balcony (if that's what you want) Tip, If you decide to leave the hotel go out of the back gate onto the promenade walkway and you can walk for miles either way. To the right, a short walk away is a beach bar serving drinks at very reasonable prices. Tip, leave the front hotel entrance and turn left, a supermarket is a short walk away. Tip, leave the front hotel entrance and walk up the road turn right at the top and on the left is Tiggy's a British bar - quiz on Monday evenings, music every other evening. A caution: in common with many Spanish hotels, change of floor level can be deceptive. Walking out of the ground floor reception to the terrace there is a drop of about one inch that is almost invisible. Tread carefully!
