"Becoming run down, could be much better but cheap!"
Got very cheap rooms at this hotel, and this was for a reason, they are outdated, smoky and poorly maintained. Paid extra to upgrade to a suite which was better, cleaner and better maintained but for the same price we could of stayed at the Hilton (which is excellent!) On the plus side, the communal areas, although outdated, are kept clean and the staff are friendly although a little slow! Food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced.
"An outdated resort with horrible service"
I stayed at the Achti Resort for 3 nights while exploring Luxor. My room (a bungalow room) was quite nice but the rest of the hotel was a disaster. It is a outdated tacky resort that shows the suffering Egyptian tourist economy. The staff at the front desk is completely useless and unwilling to help with anything beyond the basics, there isn't even a real concierge to help you arrange tours and answer your questions about sights and tours. If you want to make plans to tour Luxor you are forced to deal with a bunch of taxi drivers that wait outside of the lobby all day long and harass you and try to hustle you with deals. Avoi a muscular Nubian man named Ali at all costs. The hotel also does not intervene with the taxi drivers, do be wary of who you pick. The hotel's food was decent and the wifi coverage was also quite decent. The Achti Resort used to be the sheraton, and they have not successfully transitioned from the Sheraton as the employees name tags still say "Sheraton" as do many other things in the hotel. It's a very shabby and old hotel.
This Resort made our stay in Luxor worth while. Staffs are very kind and accommodating. Place is THE BEST! It is overlooking Nile river where you can do sailing (very good to try at dawn). It has two swimming pools in the vicinity. We stayed on the Bungalow room where we enjoyed the beautiful and clean interior. Wifi is fast, only it did not worked great on our room but it works outside. Finally, the people surrounding the vicinity are nice people, the driver we hired, his name is Abdullah, is a very nice man. He made us very happy! Find him in Luxor and he'll bring out the best of your trip! Very good value for money!
We stopped at this hotel back in 2014 on our honeymoon but it was called the Sheraton then and it changed hands recently. We enjoyed the hotels location as the rooms faced the River Nile and it was not too far out of town area, only 15mins walk to main attractions. We called in again this year to speak to some of the staff but it was almost empty due to lack of tourist. There are some Felucca boats anchored outside to use and Motoboat as well, all with good rates. The main restaurant was empty as was the other restaurants inside the complex e.g. Indian and Italian. The views over the Nile are fantastic especially the Sunrise and Sunsets. The reception area and Toilets are very clean as the outside eating area`s and a seperate area for the Shusi Pipe smokers, the grounds are pleasant and tidy to relax in and the lovely swimming pool is circular and is almost on the Nile itself. There is also some Bungalows in the grounds with own swimming pool to use for families use if required. All in all a pleasant experience to stay here.
"Fantastic Nile views and scenery but underinvested and delepadated hotel."
Arrived but had to change apartment 3 times due to the significant lack of updating old and tired beds, mates session and malfunctioning air conditioning. Breakfast was a sad affair of low value menu choice. I guess it's a reflection of the economy at large where the Russians who contributed to at least 50% of their revenue have stopped visiting. However the extremely friendly natives, market traders, restaurants, horse carriage and taxi drivers made us forget about the quality of our hotel. There was a lot to explore, taste and feel. If youre visting the Cairo Museum avoid the toilets...they're broken with no water or toilet paper. Would definitely visit Egypt again but not by Egypt Air as both engines failed prior to landing and plane safely glide landed on our return back. True reflection of the state of affairs on the Egyptian economy.
