Tips for people coming by car: Normal valet parking costs 23 USD. If you come to the hotel, first park your car at the nearest parking (enrance from Calle Recinto Sur), take a ticket and take your bags to the hotel (there is an entrance to the hotel at the Cale Comercio) that opens almost directly to the hotel entrance. Present our ticket at the reception and they will give you a special rice 13 USD per night. Location of the hotel is fantastic. Been in the hotel twice in Dec 2016. Go th the 9th floor and look from the rooftop swimming pool at the port !
"Check in from hell"
I booked 6 months in advance to ensure we would have a suite with a nice view. The cost was $370 for one night, a lot more than I would ever normally pay for a hotel but the location was good and it was within walking distance to local sights. We arrived at the hotel after a cruise at 9am. I am well aware of the 3pm check in policy but I was hoping that we would be able to get an earlier check in. When I got to the front desk I was told that the first person off the ship had arrived at the hotel at 7:30am and was already checked into a room so I felt positive. I was also told that we were the first people in line for a suite so the first one that came up would be ours. With this in mind we waited around the hotel for about an hour hoping for the room. When it wasn't ready we decided to go for a walk and get coffee. We walked around the city and did some shopping for about 2 hours. We got back to the hotel and were told the room still wasn't ready. No problem. We waited a bit longer and decided to grab lunch since it was already 12:30pm. We went out to eat and arrived back at the hotel around 1:30pm. I went again to check on the room and was told that the couple that were in our room had checked out and it was being cleaned and to come back in half hour. We waited half hour and went back to the desk. I was told again that the room was still being cleaned and to come back in 15 minutes. I waited 20 minutes and went back down to check. At this point I was frustrated. I went to the counter and asked for any suite that was available, I had a cranky 5 year old son and I was tired of being given the run around. The woman working at the front desk was flat out RUDE and gave me complete attitude. Never once was I rude or demanding, I was very patient and understanding, clearly she was having a bad day! She reminded me of the 3pm check in policy and I reminded her that check out time was 11am and it was now 3.5 hours later and knowing that we had been waiting since 9am they should have had a room ready. They agreed to give me one suite that was ready. I took it not wanting to wait any longer. The room I had booked was a king with a separate living room with a pull out couch and views of the bay. What I got was two doubles with a view of the parking garage across the street. Not that I could see out the filthy windows. It was also next door to the ice machine so we had the pleasure of hearing it hum all night long and people getting ice at 2am. At 6:50am we were awoken to cars having a honk off in the parking garage next door. The incessant honking went off for a good 15 minutes. When I got up to take a shower and tried to use the blow dryer, it only blew cold air, I called down to ask for a new one. The attendant came to the door and rather than bringing a new one asked if she could test it to make sure, as if I was lying. After she tested it and realized it didn't work, she then brought a new one. Overall horrible experience. I would never book here again and for the $370 I paid for the room I think I was totally ripped off.
"Chose for location rather than spec"
We were sailing on a cruise the next day, so wanted to be close to the port terminals. Staff are friendly, location is great and walking distance into the best of Old San Juan - but the hotel, well the rooms in particular are very average. In their defence, there are notifications that a renovation is underway with newly refurbished rooms which look much more modern so time will tell. Great location if you are wanting to be local to the port terminals for cruises. Taxi rank right outside too, although Uber is cheaper - but you will have to walk a slight distance from the hotel to use an Uber as there is local contention between Uber and taxi drivers.
"in the heart of history"
located in the heart of the historic old san juan. walking distance to all attractions, restaurant, museum, etc. the staffs were friendly nice. the room is big and clean bathroom. highly recommended hotel.
"Way to relax"
From the moment we entered the hotel we were treated wonderful. Our rooms were not ready and we were promised a call as soon as they were. Within an hour we got a call that we could check in. The staff held our luggage and it was a seamless process to get into the room. Our room overlooked the water with a very tiny balcony(less than a step) and a magnificent view. The bed was comfortable (king) with plenty of room and lots of pillows! Up on the 9th floor was a wonderful pool that was the perfect relaxation spot. Book and drink in hand... perfect way to start a vacation. Bellman helpful to get a taxi. Settle on price before hand. Our cab driver purposefully drove slow to the port to up his fees.
