"Great place to stay"
This hotel is very nice From the hotel rooms you have a wonderful view of Leblon beach. It has a nice pool with sea view. It has a beautiful terrace to eat looking at the sea Service is great and all the amenities as well.
"A tired hotel with a non swimming beach"
Upon walking into our room, the air was freezing cold, and no matter how much we increased the thermostat, it remained cold . Yes, it does get cold in Rio, but without the air con the room was stuffy. So for 7 nights we slept in a stuffy room. The hotel advised that their air con only provides 'cool air'!! Not a great start. The hotel is isolated as it's located away from the main beaches, restaurants and bars. The pool area is ok with lots of loungers and a bar, however you can't swim on the beach in front of the hotel as its too dangerous. The rooms are clean but tired and certainly weren't what we expect from a Sheraton. The small Gift Store has overpriced items and opening hours are intermittent. Staff were helpful and friendly. Unlike our first visit 10years ago, it didn't 'feel' like we were in Rio. If you want to experience the vibrancy and colour that is Rio, I'd recommend staying in another hotel on the busy beachfront at Ipanema or CocoCabana.
"This was a work conference/holiday "
This was prebooked for us for a business conference. The appearance of the hotel is lovely. The food throughout the 5 days was pretty average. The elevators were very temperamental taking you to various levels higher and lower to that pressed which was frustrating. One day we had 10 people in the elevator (maximum of 18) we got to the 2nd floor before the elevator slipped and dropped several feet a couple of times before returning to ground floor 0. Very nerve racking. The hotel wifi was very poor dropping in and out which was frustrating when having to do several work emails etc. The staff were all extremely accomodating and friendly which was a redeeming thing about the hotel. I'm glad we didn't pay for it as I'm sure there must've been better value hotel's. For a 5 star hotel it was pretty average.
"Not bad but nothing remarkable."
A little away from the activity of Ipanema and Copacabana, this hotel feels a little isolated. It has its own private beach. The rooms are average as are the F & B areas. Would prefer to be at another hotel and closer to everything.
Just returned from a lovely stay at the Sheraton Grand Rio. Prior to our arrival, the hotel staff emailed me to offer assistance and provided transportation options from the airport. We took a yellow taxi which offered a flat rate of $72R. Unfortunately uber cannot be called at the airport. We used uber on our way home and it cost $59R. As an SPG Gold member, we were able to check in at the club on the 26th floor, which was a nice touch! The views from the 26th floor are spectacular!! Check in was a treat with Yara. She was so kind and offered so much advice for our stay. She was our go to person for the whole trip and she was always there to offer us assistance. As we were celebrating our anniversary, the room was ready with a bottle of sparkling wine and delicious treats! Our room was upgraded to an ocean front view and the view was magnificent!! The room was large in size (even though it was a classic room) and the bed was very comfortable. The room was clean provided all of the necessary amenities. The only let down for me was the washroom. Not as modern as I would have hoped. I am not particularly fond of bathtubs and shower curtains. A glass shower would have been better, but I also only paid for a standard room. We paid extra for club access and it was amazing!! 100% well worth it!! It was a beautiful club lounge and different from the other Sheraton Clubs that we are used to. This club includes a private breakfast on the 26th floor E'toile restaurant, which offered luxury, incredible views and a mix of both buffet style and a la carte options. The service at the restaurant was amazing! In addition to the breakfast, club guests have access to the lounge at all times which has an unlimited supply of water, soft drinks, coffee and tea. From 4-6 tea time is offered, with juices and delicious cakes/pastries. Finally from 6-8 is happy hour. Cocktails are included such as, Caipirinhas, vodka, gin, rum, wine, sparkling wine, etc. The happy hour also includes delicious hors d'oeuvres. All of this is included with the club access and is will worth it. The service we received by the bar tender, Yara, Joana and Rafaela was excellent!! The grounds of the hotel were clean and modern. The amenities were excellent with a gym, pool and jacuzzi outside. While the beach is not private, it basically is as there were very minimal people there. The water was a bit rough. The hotel offers several restaurants and room service. We did not particularly enjoy the room service, however we heard excellent reviews of the in house restaurants. Situated in Leblon, the atmosphere is quieter than Ipanema and Copa Cabana but there are several excellent restaurant options near by, if you want to leave the resort. Finally, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to guests. It takes you to Ipanema, Copa Cabana and a shopping mall. The shuttle is offered at various times throughout the day and is every convenient. We used uber quite a bit as it is very frequent and inexpensive! Overall, we loved our stay and plan to return to this hotel again!! Thank you for a memorable experience!
