"Sheraton Saigon - TERRIBLE!! Should not be a Starwood Property!"
Recently held a business conference at this hotel with 15 key managers from the Asia region. The food was very good, but everything else in the hotel was terrible, especially their ridiculous policy of trying to charge people for early check out. When they tried to put this into our event contract, we removed it (we are all regional executives and travel schedules change!!). I informed the hotel on Wednesday that I would check out on Thursday and not Friday morning as originally planned. Upon checking out they tried to charge me for the night and when I politely told them that we had an agreement in our event contract to remove that clause. After booking 15 rooms and having meals/drinks/etc spending more money at the hotel, they insisted on charging me for the one night. They insisted on keeping me at the front desk while they searched for the contract just so they could prove me wrong. I understand if local staff are not informed or not willing to make a decision. However when I asked for the expat Director of Rooms, even they would not make the easy decision to proceed with the check out and let me be on my way to the airport. Even the expat manager was determined to find a way to get the extra US$100 for the night. AFTER DELAYING ME FOR NEARLY 20 MINUTES THEY FINALLY FOUND THE CONTRACT AND IT CLEARLY STATED "THE EARLY DEPARTURE FEE IS WAIVED FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THIS EVENT".... Not only is the hotel management inflexible, but to delay a guest and try so hard to prove a guest wrong for $100 is something I have never experienced in 30 years of business travel. My message to Starwood, drop the Sheraton Saigon as a property. Get rid of all the expats at that location - they are not worth the expense. Every local employee in that property would be more capable of making a decision and move on. The only acceptable decision for that event would have been "Thank you for choosing our property for your event, sorry you are leaving early. Here is your bill to date, we hope you choose us again".... it should have been a 2 minute check out process. Not a 20 minute argument. We could have overlooked that the hotel is old, somewhat dirty, even the light switches on the walls are torn/broken and the bathroom amenities are from 2013/2014 (check the dates). Makes me wonder if they ship the expired shampoo/lotions/etc.. from other hotels and use them up at this property' For sure none of my staff will be allowed to book this hotel again and I will be writing to Starwood separately to inform them how that hotel is being managed. The Hyatt is just behind this hotel. Much newer, nicer and much better managed. Will surely not book that Sheraton again!!

"Aging property being refurbished "
Stayed 2 nights on business in the old tower. Got a corner room on 22nd floor. Room - due to aging, room is just average. There was mold in the shower area. Amenities were miserable (shampoo, conditioner, bath, toothbrush and lacked even a shower cap. Bed was not that comfortable compared to other sheratons. Service- check in was a breeze and hotel staff are efficient. Special thanks to cuong at front desk.. very friendly and helpful to accommodate my last minute change of date. Overall their service is good and no complaints! Location-really good, right in city centre. Opposite hotel there are affordable food and many massage centers. Wifi-free and stable Breakfast - moved to 23rd floor due to refurbishment. Boring food choices! Only local speciality was the pho. Be careful when dining here as there are many steps and potential triping Overall I will not stay again at the Sheraton due to the hotel condition. It seems that there is a lot of scrimping a few cents here and there and it lacks the feel of a 5-star hotel. For example, if you look at their breakfast mats, it is just appalling how frayed and worn out they look.. I guess it costs only a little money to replace them! There is no need to wait until a complete refurbishment is done..
Centrally located and with good security. Rooms are large with excellent facilities facilities, There are even smoking rooms if you so desire! Tour desk will arrange day trips in and around Saigon with trusted guides. An over night tailor opposite the hotel does good quality work at reasonable rates. Lobby renovations taking place do not cause any disruption or noise. In all what one expects from a five star hotel.
"Stinks and the make you sit in stinky lobby or charge you millions for wifi"
On arrival not impressed by lobby renovations but not upset either until I'm told we have to sit here if we want wifi or pay $22aud per hour if we use it in our room and I'm travelling with kids so not family friendly or practical or safe and lobby stinks like smoke giving all of us s sore throat. This is the last day of our holiday so I paid double of any other hotel for a treat but worst hotel of our stay and we are so disappointed. Only hotel we don't get s welcome drink either because apparently there is no where nice to sit and have it yet they force us to sit here if we want to use wifi. Go figure' Why are they so greedy. I will never stay at Sheraton again. This is 3rd time in a year and o just keep getting disappointed. Suggest you stay at Vietnamese brand hotel for less money and double the luxury. The skybar here is nice and rxpensivd food tastes great but you can visit without staying in a boring western hotel lacking culture and atmosphere. Lift stinks too and so do hallways. Smoke has destroyed this hotel in all areAs
