"Outstanding location; charming details in room"
The room was exceptionally comfortable, with big four poster bed, a deep tub and a shower. Furthermore, there were a number of charming touches, including a quilt on the bed, books and usual magazines. The entry of the hotel is lovely, with a roaring fire going on cool days. The hotel is literally right on the beach.
We stayed in room 302 (ocean front corner suite on the top floor in the "Beach House"). It was the most world class experience we have ever had in a hotel...a great destination if you really want to splurge and treat yourself to an unforgettable vacation.
"Coast Restaurant disappointed "
We stayed at the Viceroy just behind shutters and thought Coast would be a great place to have lunch and enjoy the sun. Sadly we got stuck in a corner when there were other tables available and the food was average at best. Plenty of better places in SM for sure!
Shutters is one of those rare hotels that knows exactly how to hit that very special note between luxury and approachability. Public spaces with well-curated art, interior design that recognizes the value of the getting the details just right, a restaurant with wonderful food and staff, and an overall understanding by the staff at large that luxury hotels need not be defined by a stuffy approach to service and personal relationships. I would recommend Shutters to any global traveler.
"Probably the best beach hotel in CA"
Santa Monica is a must when staying in LA and after spending at least 10-12 hollidays in Santa Monica it comes down to a choise between Loews hotel and Shutters. My visit in October was my first stay at Shutters and it was just as cozy and charming as I had expected. Light and bright with a homy atmosphere which is rear to find these days. Good breakfast and a nice spa and hot tub maked our stay relaxing and luxurious. The only minus is the price. Starting price at $ 700 for a non view room is even for a norwegian terrible expensive. We paid much less when staying at a luxurious hotel in Tahiti and even in Maldives 2 years ago. We find it hard to understand why the prices have increased so much the last 2 years. Shutters are now passing a limit for many. That's a pitty for many europeans who should be able to see USA at it's best - at Shutters ( and Loews ). Hope to visit again but it don't know if I can afford it. Guess I have to save some money and go bach to Maldives or South Africa ( last winter ).
