"Great is so many ways, but could so easily be fabulous with a little more attention to detail from management"
In many ways one of the most special places we've stayed. Absolutely fabulous room - great character, size, amazing antique furniture, beautiful bathroom (with real Jacuzzi and view to die for (well it was for Romeo and Juliet!) - we had the Sogno suite overlooking the courtyard with Juliet's balcony. The staff were friendly, helpful and always there to make sure of a great stay. So why not 5 stars' Mainly, little things, which the owners/managers could easily sort. Breakfast is served in your room, with great aplomb, and in many ways it's a lovely experience. However, the actual core breakfast is really a bit mediocre. Rolls (not anything special), plain croissant, cornflakes, yoghurt and a few other basics. The problem is that even a budget hotel offers eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, pain chocolate, fruit, more cereal selection etc as standard. You can order all those things, but at a supplement of 4 or so euros each - and could easily end up spending an extra 30-40 euros just to have what would normally be provided as part of your already paid for breakfast in a much more economy hotel. All in all it just felt a bit penny-pinching - esp as this is definitely not a budget hotel! Then there's the TV - it's dire, with the most loony remote control I've ever come across (you can't even flick through the channels like on any other TV). In reviews, other customers have grumbled about this, and to change the sets would cost very little in the grand scheme of things - yet despite customer feedback it doesn't get done. We had a light not working in the bathroom, which when reported was too big a job to do whilst we were guests - and I suspect it had been like that for the last few visitors too - and for all we know is still broken. And yes, you do get the courtyard to yourselves after 7pm - except in our experience there are exceptions - with us on our last night when we needed an early night for an early start the next day, there was a group of people admitted after 11pm who made a lot of noise just as we were wanting to get to sleep, staying for about half an hour or more. No criticism of the staff in any of the above, as I doubt anything we mentioned is in their power to change. And I might sound picky, but because the place is so fabulous it felt such a shame that little things let it down somewhat. I'd still say stay there, as even with the flaws it's an amazing place - and management, please just go that extra mile!
When we entered the courtyard to the Giulietta balcony; which u must for the hotel, there were mobs and mobs of tourists. We were immediately concerned with our hotel choice. However, at 7:00 the gates are closed, and u have the courtyard all to urselves. Very nice hotel. Attractive rooms; ours was off the street view, which we loved. Immediately accessible to the Piazza Erbe, and lots of food and shopping.
"Private Personal Stay! "
I felt so special getting to stay at this small but very romantic and personalized hotel. Sitting within the courtyard of the Balcony di Giulietta, this private experience is worth every Euro! I felt pampered in the room with the elaborate breakfast that was served and as I sipped coffee on the balcony I looked over the streets of Verona! What a treat! They allow tourists in during the daytime hours to see the balcony of course but come evening the gates are locked allowing only those staying at this small (maybe 8 room') special hotel to enjoy the courtyard at night ! These guests are then welcome to dine privately, dance around or simply enjoy to themselves! The staff is consistently excellent from bellboy to concierge and they assisted me every time with a smile! Gratzi for the wonderful stay!
The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is located right in the centre of the shopping district - with all the attractions/shopping/restaurants on your door step - nothing is more than 10 minutes walk. Once you negotiate the crowds visiting the balcony/courtyard you enter through a discreet door roped off - its a tiny entrance hall with small desk which is always manned - where they give you / take your key. There is a small lift. All the rooms have names - ours was on the 3rd floor overlooking the street with a small balcony with nice views of the square. We had a standard room - a good size and exactly as in the picture. Nice and bright and clean and fresh looking. A spacious bathroom has a bidet and Jacuzzi bath. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning was on all the time - which was a nice relief from the heat. They serve you a continental breakfast direct to your room - you select from a menu the night before along with a time slot and it arrives and is set up on the table with 2 chairs, all looking nice and fresh. If you want fresh juice or eggs or fruit you have to pay 4 euros for each item. We found the selection of rolls/ham/cheese/croissant/cereal/yogurt to be more than enough. Good coffee. No free water but we brought our own and just emptied the mini bar to put our items in. They clean the room during the morning and in the evening come and prepare the room for the night - they shut the shutters and curtains and refresh any towels etc you may need. As others have said the thing that really sets this place apart from the other hotels is the fact that after 7.30pm the main gates are closed to the general public and you have the courtyard with the balcony all to yourself. When you come back you ring a bell and they come and open them for you to the amazement and jealousy of other tourists clinging to the gates for a view! There are no public areas in the hotel, no restaurant, but you don't really need that here. Verona is such a lovely town and easy to navigate.
