The Splendid Nice Hotel is located right in the centre of Nice| in a privileged location just 400 metres from the beach.
This is our first time staying at this hotel and was part of a package through British Airways. This was also our first time in Nice. Pros: The hotel is easy to get to via bus #98 from the airport (€6 each way) and walking approx 10 mins up Mont Veyer. We upgraded to a room with a patio which would be nice in the warmer months Breakfast was included in our package Cons: Hotel was undergoing construction which we knew about prior to coming however the noise was tiresome after a while. Walls had water stains on them Bathroom had areas of mold to the ceiling TV only had x2 British channels and. It's were news stations Breakfast choice was very limited with powdered eggs Overall if you are looking for an upmarket hotel then this may not be for you. The standard was 3* at best. However, it is fairly close to the beach and train station. If I were to return I would check out other options before committing to the Splendid again.
"Great, relaxing stay"
We had a wonderful time in Nice and found the hotel staff friendly and the environment very relaxing. The roof terrace was a great place to unwind and we had many a delicious cocktail too. The only disappointing aspect was the smoky smell in the non-smoking room we had and the furniture was drab and dated. We would stay again however!
"Nothing Splendid about this hotel- it's a rip off don't book"
Don't be fooled by the low prices, it's a scam! This was advertised as €71 but ended up paying €83 in additional charges not advertised. They advertise as having parking facilities once you get there they charge you €24. They don't tell you there is free street parking overnight. The breakfast at this hotel is absolutely rubbish and overpriced, it's not even worth €2 yet we were charged €19/person. You are better off booking an expensive known brand hotel that includes breakfast. As you can see €83+€19=€102. Breakfast for 2 people turned out to be €38 of which you are better off going to a very good restaurant on the high street. This is how they ramp up charges for your stay. We had booked a standard room and was given a terrible small room smelling of cigarette smoke and the lights were not working. The Hotel needs serious attention everywhere. The lady at reception apologised and upgraded us to a suite, which was nice and spacious. She also wanted to give us a better deal than the online one at €65 but we could only do it following day for the second night only as it was late to change the booking. She also included breakfast in the upgrade. There was one girl working in the dining area even with 3 people in the restaurant she looked confused and you could not find cutlery or anything you had to ask her for almost everything, which was missing and she had to go and fetch for them. The bread was hard and dry. We explained to her that the breakfast was complimentary, she phoned somewhere to confirm but didn't explain anything back to us. She gave a card to fill out and sign. There was a new guy at reception, he is pot bellied and very arrogant. You must avoid him, he doesn't smile and is very unhelpful. He refused to honour the deal the night receptionist had offered us saying to us you need to deal with her, I wasn't there like attitude. On checking out he included breakfast charges of €57 and refused to honour the complimentary we were offered. He was so rude this man, he shouldn't be at reception at all. It was all a rip off! They were hardly any guests in the hotel, the two days we stayed we saw less than 5 other guests. I can see why, the hotel is rubbish, book at your own peril ! We stayed first night at Hotel Saint-Aygulf, it was lovely, the staff were amazing and the breakfast amazing, and it was inclusive. If you are going to France I would recommend to book the brand hotels you already know in from your country. Make sure you double check the full cost of your stay including additional hidden charges. Make sure you double check what your booking offers. Thosepictures with a swimming pool and Jacuzzi don't tell the whole picture, the pool is small and dirty, it's cramped rooftop place. The long other good thing was the security guy or concierge, he was helpful
I really liked the location of this hotel, the rooftop restaurant and the pool area. The decor and the guest rooms however is in need of a serious update. It is really dated. The staff were very friendly and the room was always clean. The bed was not very comfortable. I left an item in the room and the hotel lost it however very kindly refunded me for the item which I was grateful for. I would love to see this hotel renovated. It could be beautiful. We ate at the restaurant every evening as we had booked the half board package. The menu is set on this package which isn't ideal for vegetarians however the hotel were very flexible and I always had a beautiful meal to enjoy. The bar is very expensive but there are plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance.
This is a lovely hotel in a great location, ideal for the train station and the promenade. There is a lovely pool and Jacuzzi. We woke up one morning and there was no water, they were quick to give us another room to shower, and when we got back from our day there was a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us. Great customer service. Would recommend.
