The Splendid Nice Hotel is located right in the centre of Nice| in a privileged location just 400 metres from the beach.
This is a lovely hotel in a great location, ideal for the train station and the promenade. There is a lovely pool and Jacuzzi. We woke up one morning and there was no water, they were quick to give us another room to shower, and when we got back from our day there was a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us. Great customer service. Would recommend.
This seems to be getting a habit, I love this hotel, it is in a perfect position within easy walking distance to Promenade D'Angalis, the Train station, the old town and shopping area. Rooms are spacious and unusually for France have a full bathroom and real balcony not just the juiliette type. The staff are wonderfull, nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast caters for most tastes, bear in mind if you want poached eggs or omelette you only need to ask, they are so obliging. OK, it may not be placed as well as Negresco or Palais de la Mediteranee but having stayed at both in the past this place beats them hands down for service and value.
"Good location & value"
We stayed for 3 nights in mid-October. The hotel is located centrally within easy walking distance of the beach, old town and several restaurants. The price we paid was good value. The rooms are comfortable but dated. The pool, bar and restaurant are all on the roof with nice views across Nice. The pool is quite small, and very cold.....the temperature indicator said the water was 16 degrees which was to cold to use, I did try !! although I appreciate it was October. We didn't eat in the restaurant or use the bar. The bar does have a happy hour but only from Monday to Thursday we stayed at the weekend we weren't able to use this. The reception staff were friendly and helpful.
"Good location, decent spa, old rooms"
The location is good - about 10 minute walk to the old town and just up a couple blocks from the beach. It is a quiet area at night, but still cafés, shops, etc. within walking distance. The room itself was old - very old. Bed was comfortable and there was plenty of room for my things. The bathroom was large, but needs a serious update. It also could have been cleaner (I found a pubic hair in the tub!) The spa is nice - 15 euro gets you 45 minutes of hot tub and sauna to yourself. The gym is just a small room - one treadmill, one bike (which didn't work) - some weights (not heavy ones, just light ones), exercise ball, some bands and mats, and that is about it. I think there can only really be three people in there comfortably at the same time. I didn't eat the breakfast - too many nice cafés in walking distance. I did go upstairs to the bar (where breakfast is served) to get a drink and found it quite depressing. The pool looked sad. Would I stay here again' No, I don't think so. I don't feel it was a good value for the price.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in mid September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Splendid. It's a very convenient hotel for a base in Nice, being a couple of minutes walk from the beach and the Promenade des Anglais, less than 10 minutes from Place Massena and about 10 minutes to the Old Town. The hotel itself is smart, clean and comfortable and in all our dealings with members of staff, they were helpful and friendly. Our room, (605) , a superior double with balcony, was nicely appointed, a fair size with ample storage and a good-sized bathroom with both a shower cabinet and a jacuzzi bath. The large balcony caught the sun in the afternoon and evening and it was pleasant to sit on it to watch the sun go down. Housekeeping were super, keeping the bathroom well stocked with toiletries and fresh towels and making up the room Immaculately eqch day. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room too, as well as a pay as you use minibar. The weather was lovely when we visited an we made good use of the rooftop terrace and pool. There are loungers around the pool and on the upper terrace and as people came and went during the day, it was possible to get one on most occasions. Otherwise, there are lovely seating areas to sit and enjoy the sunshine as well as a jacuzzi on the deck. We ate lunch here one day, choosing the mixed tapas (fish and cold meats) between the two of us. Cost was around 19 euros but left us both full and it was delicious. We also had drinks on the upper terrace one evening and it was a lovely setting and quite romantic! We didn't dine in the restaurant though we wished we had one evening after a poor meal in town, but it was always pretty busy for both breakfast and dinner. We had a late flight but were able to leave our bags at reception and make the most of our day in Nice. An added bonus was the shower room on the ground floor near reception where we could freshen up, with toiletries and towels provided, before our flight home. All in all, we had a lovely stay at the Splendid, I'd recommend it to anyone and we'll definitely visit again.
