I am a Platinum member of Marriott's reward program and have stayed at several properties all over the world, this ranks low on my list of stays world-wide. First, the cleanliness of the rooms was lacking. The mirror on my closet door was covered with dust. When you walked down the hallways there was trash sitting outside in the hallways that was there for over 24 hours. I left at 8:00 a.m. for a conference and returned at 2:30 p.m. and my room had not been cleaned. I did not contact the front desk because by that time it wasn't worth it and I would be checking out the next morning at 6:00 a.m. The property is near the medical center and several families stayed there before getting on/off cruise ships. The hotel is not in the best of neighborhoods. My conference was at the Ice Palace (1 mile from hotel) and my Uber driver was kind enough to show me the Women's detention center and crack alley all on 14th Street. I would not recommend walking too far from the hotel. I did go to Fiesta Salsa and Jimmy Johns around the corner in the medical center area but that was only during day time. If you are just coming in/out of Miami and not planning on spending time it may work for you. If you are attending anything downtown recommend staying somewhere closer.
"Like a Oasis in the middle of the Hood"
This trip, was a scheduled trip to the hospital for surgery for my mother. Now that being said I used to be a Security contractor overseas and currently I currently live on an island life is good and I haven't had to deal with real world Big city issues for a while. And I would say that of course is one of the main reasons that I choose to live on the island . Upon arrival to the area and having lived and worked in come pretty schetchy third world type places in my past, we noticed that the hospitals are strategically located in the middle of what is known as the Mother F in HOOD. Complete with Bars on the windows of every residence, zombies walking around in the middle of the day and the night. People passed out on the side walks and underpasses with the unique smell of urine and feces permeating around the general area, and of course Traffic of all kinds all hours of the evening. When we arrived to the area my wife asked if I brought my gun . I of course said yes then replied, Did you bring yours' her response mirrored my own so that brought the stress level down a bit. If there was going to be a car jacking, Robbery or gun fight we were ready. This experience brought back some old memories of another hole called Baghdad bouncing from Safe house to safe house . To get to the hotel you have to check in at a front entrance that is slightly off street. and only allows one vehicle at a time. You then get a pass/ key card that provides you access to the off street gated parking garage . No one is watching the gate so the illusion of security is there but if the boogie man wanted to get you it wouldn't be that hard to do. My suggestion is Bring the heat and walk in condition Orange until you get inside the hotel. The Hotel itself is Great. Staff was good and spoke English which of course brought down my PTSD a Notch. and is a plus in some of the places in Miami these days you it may be a chore to communicate if your are not bilingual. Back to the hotel. Cleanest rooms that I have been in for a while. Updated and wifi Flows like wine. The A/C is pumping. Beds are comfortable, pull out couch and you even have a little area for office work if needed. If your next to the street you may be hearing the garbage trucks run at 04:00 am but that only last until about 05:30. Bring a death fan or a white noise generator it will solve the problem. They have a little restaurant / Bar down stairs, A gym with the basics 3 treadmills, 3 elliptical machines a bench and dumbbells that go all the way to 50 lbs. on the outside is what I would like to describe as a wading pool or maybe even a lap pool goes from 3 ft to 5 ft at the deep end and has enough chlorine to drink the water. It was heated and comfortable and refreshing. As stated prior a safe house oasis in the middle of the hood.
"Offers comfortable accommodations but poor management"
Some friends and I stayed there while on vacation! It wasn't our first choice but we decided to give it a try! In terms of accommodation it was pretty decent hotel, a bit pricey but that's understandable since we were in the heart of city! Parking $20 a night we thought was high but understandable we are downtown! I like the complimentary breakfast however the breakfast room was always crammed with people and finding a table was a headache some mornings. We had a few issues which were eventually resolved but it left a very sour impression of management and the hotel. Every night we got back from our trip our key would not work to open the garage door and that alone was frustrating having to wait in security to let us in. After reporting it to the front desk and speaking to management nothing was done no apology anything! In the end of the front desk agent took the initiative to take off the parking fees and we were very happy about that. But we were very disappointed in management they did nothing to appease us! When we got home one of our friends noticed a charge on her credit card for 900 something US which we were really confused about because the room was supposed to be taken care long time ago! It took us two weeks, including talking to every front desk agent, and manager to get this problem resolved. Everyone we spoke to promised to have someone call and no one ever called! The hotel was at fault and they never took responsibility for it! I won't recommmend this hotel only because of the poor management!
My husband and I stayed here the night before a cruise. Our flight came in late and the Springhill shuttle still picked us up after 11pm. Was so thankful for that. The hotel is nice. The room was ok. Seemed very "lived" in but clean. We were in and out. The hotel offered a shuttle to the cruise port which is why I booked here. It was super convenient and a close proximity. The shuttle driver was I think is hired by the hotel but all went well and when we got back from our cruise he picked us up and took us to the airport.
"Nice hotel, great restaurant!"
Stayed here for our cruise out of Miami. The room was great although it was set up a little weird. The shower was seperate from the the little "water closet". The restaurant was really great! We had a nice dinner and a great breakfast the next morning that was complementary. The hotel is not really near anything so don't plan on walking anywhere. We took an Uber to the Marina and spent the day there. Fairly close to the cruise port, we took a taxi because our Uber drivers were a bit lost.
