"Disappointingly patchy service"
We arrived having had superb business class flights with Qatar Airways and were taken to Reception at 1100 approx. The surly lady at the check-in desk told us our room was not ready and she would ring our mobile when we could take the room , which after a 12 hour journey we were certainly looking forward to. We have travelled dozens of times within the Middle East, mostly Oman, and the difference In service was shocking. We were not offered a drink, nor cold towel nor even a bottle of water, just pointed at a chair in Reception and told she would ring us when room was ready. After an hour or so we had heard nothing so my husband went to check on progress. To our surprise the room was now ready (no phone call as promosed!) and we were given the key card.. For a room described as 'superior sea view' it was an insult. The view from the window was a large building with a construction site behind it, if you are athletic enough to hang over the balcony and eyes left you will see the sea , but this is pushing a point to whole new extremes. We immediately returned to Reception where a helpful man said if a room with a sea view became available he would move us the following day, The next day we heard nothing, re-revisited reception and were told they might have a room with the promised sea view. However, the original hatchet -face lady said it was 'ready but.needed final checks'. When we asked if we could have a look at the room she refused. She told us to go back to our room and wait. This is a major part of our 5-day holiday ! Fortunately I think her manager overheard and we were taken to our new (as expected) sea view room. At no point during check in were we given any details of the hotel, eg facilities, gym, sauna , indoor pool, extra % charge on all costs, how to access movies and at what cost etc. We were also told by member of bar staff that there is an e-butler accessible by app - again, nobody told us this. The weather here has been horribly unseasonable so we retired to room this afternoon. The refreshment tray did not have Earl Grey teabags so we requested a single teabag from the restaurant downstairs and were told they would "charge it to the room '. So be warned - you pay hundreds of pounds to stay each night , and can't even have a teabag. Sontaya restaurant has been superb but again management is hit and miss. We were brought a complimentary glass of port after supper (our third supper in 3 nights ) but tonight's female maitre d said there would be no digestifs. Obviously the appalling weather hasn't helped but our first venture into Abu Dhabi will also be our last I am sad to say. Oman wins hands down on service, authenticity, hospitality and genuine Arabian Culture. This hotel feels like a transitory dormitory for passing expats and their ghastly children. If you' re English with a desire to experience Dubai (never been but heard it is blingy and not at all Arabian) come here! If you would like a genuine classy Arabian experience with top levels of service, do not!
"Throughly impressed "
Although I didn't know much about the hotel,i was surprise to have such an experience. We didn't expect such value for money. Impeccable quality of food and outstanding service, particularly deep from olae is super attentive all the time and never fall to exceed our expectation. Can't wait to come back😊😊😊
Beautiful beach. Incredible food. Large, comfortable, well decorated rooms. great and attentive staff. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and the breakfast buffet is out of this world. The beach and pool are both picturesque and perfect for tanning and swimming.
"Lovely hotel amazing spa shame no sun "
Great hotel for families. The spa was amazing especially Carmen. The food could not be faulted although the service in the restaurants could be improved. The kids club was brilliant for the kids and splash park was ideal for my 1 year old and 5 year old. Wish the sun had come out to play. Defo a good hotel for families with the separate beach. There is a Waitrose opposite if you by anything as drinks for children can get expensive. No evening entertain which I think the hotel could do with.
"Fantastic hotel, prepare to spend"
The hotel is amazing with every possible comfort you could need and real attention to detail. The rooms are spacious with excellent bathrooms and comfortable beds. The pools and beach area are beautiful, the restaurants offer excellent food and the staff are great. There is also a cluster of shops and restaurants/cafes opposite the main hotel entrance which offers a change of scenery. But all of it comes at a premium price, even by local standards, so you need to come prepared to spend a fair amount particularly on food and drink. Two down sides; the hotel is surrounded by building sites so some of the beauty is lost if you take a walk down the beach or around the golf course, and the spa is expensive but small and average treatments.
