Fabian- as soon as you arrive this bell boy is smiling and ready to help You! Emilio- mini bar is always full when he is around. He does a great job at helping you receive peanuts and chips. Francisco- is the friendliest server around. He is always ready to get you what you want and make you smile. Had many good laughs with him. We had a wonderful vacation and we will be back again next year!
"Nice grounds all around"
Sunset marina has the name says it, is located between two marinas on the lagoon side of Cancun. If you are looking for a beach, this is not a place for you. However if you are looking for water sports, you are at the right place. The entrance to each unit faces the main street and is very busy and noisy, there is a double door that can be closed to reduce the noise, but the one of our unit was broken, we called to have it fixed, they tried and after an hour gave up and never came back. This resort is mainly an all inclusive resort, but if you choose to prepare your own meals, the kitchen is not well equipped at all. (Even somethings as basic as a toaster or wine glasses are not present). We tried the lunch and breakfast busy and the food was ok, at breakfast go for the freshly made eggs rather then the one already in the buffet. Lots of fresh fruits and cereals. There are lots of activities on site, we tried the kayaking. The units are very comfortable and each have a balcony with table and chairs facing the lagoon. The grounds are exceptionally well kept. There is a free shuttle that can take you to the other hotels from the same ownership. If you are offered any gifts to go to a sales presentation, DO NOT GO, pressure sales. In conclusion I would recommend this resort and rated very good, with the understanding that it is not a place with a beach nor a place where you can easily prepare your own meals. Everything else is ok.
The best part of this property is the personalized service of the staff. Have been coming here every year since 2002. Saw the biggest changes this year due to new owners. Cut back on food and activities. They stopped all the buffet dinners on the beach which they had cut back to 3 times a week. Less choices and quality of food. The new chef Fernando Ramirez is fantastic. He listens to our concerns and is trying to do the best he can to improve things. Has only been with Sunset 4 months. See him talking to patrons daily. Stopped welcome gift, and had to call almost daily for stocking of refrigerator in room with drinks, chips, and nuts. My room had a broken toilet paper holder the entire two weeks I was there. Also had cockroaches in my room. I told them the day I checked out because did not want poison spray in my room. I do like being able to go to all 4 resorts for fine dining with the all inclusive. Being that I go for two weeks, it would get repetitive if I had to eat at the same place all the time..
"Paula in the Spa"
The Sunset Marina Resort was awesome, spent a week there with friends and we enjoyed every minute of the quiet relaxed area! My highlight was my massage by Paula mid week, it was awesome, relaxing and much needed, Thank You Paula, see you next year!!
"Fantastic Sunset Marina Staff"
We stayed at Sunset Marina for one week this year after an absence of several years. The best asset of this resort is its staff, especially those in the dining room They are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Honourable mention to Tino, Gonzalo, Francisco, Isaio and Rudy. The resort itself is well maintained. It tends to attract an older clientele and is therefore quieter than some of the resorts in Cancun that attract a younger, party-going clientele. The dining facilities and food services were average at best - but guests at the Marina are also able to book into the a la carte restaurant at Royal Sunset - and to get there by boat or bus. The wine served as part of the "all inclusive" was not great - our recollection was that the wine was a better quality a few years ago. It also appeared to us that the resort was "scrimping" on the alcohol to some extent. The bar had no Gin available for at least several days and (unlike other years) a second drink during meals was frequently not forthcoming unless you flagged a waiter down. Notwithstanding its shortcomings however, it is a good place to stay for a fairly quiet Mexican holiday.
